I was most fortunate to reconnect with Warren in 2008 through facebook about 5 months before he died. In that short period of time I learned so much about the teen who had taken his intelligence and charisma and transformed himself into an accomplished entrepreneur, business owner, author, and community activist in his beloved Iowa.
Among the many life experiences we realized we shared between 1971 and 2008 was the very early and sudden death of our fathers which affected us the most. They both passed away at the age of 56. This common connection was a great comfort to us, as we were both very connected to our fathers. We both vowed to outlive our fathers and coincidently in doing so, became avid runners many years before and tried to live the most healthy lives we could.
Saturday, October 18, 2008 he wrote to that me he was going for his (usual) 17 mile run in the Fairfield, Iowa countryside.
I never heard from him again.
When my facebook conversations were left unanswered I just knew something was terribly wrong. I found out later he died in his sleep from a massive heart attack early Monday, October 20th, 2008.
As much as he tried to tempt fate, he just couldn’t outlive his father. He was only 55.
Our renewed friendship was nothing short of a miracle and I will forever be grateful for the few, precious months I conversed with Warren. His wisdom, intuition and insight have left an indelible energy in my life.
