RE: Nick Names Posted Thursday, June 11, 2009 04:43 PM we called richie caroluso Gobbles when we were younger. he used to come down #6 with a salami and capocollo sandwich. the slang for capocollo sounds like gabogool. so somehow we started to call him that, then it morphed into just Gobbles. then one day, he got a crewcut haircut. his head was perfectly round, and one of the older kids said his head looked like a melon. so, we called him melonhead, which turned into Mel. i love telling that story!!! pepe aka: pep, pepperoni, saergent pepper, the pepper, pepsi cola, the pepster, pepe la pue, etc...and don't forget "the Sheik". i was (and still am) called everyname in the book!

RE: Nick Names Posted Friday, June 12, 2009 10:28 AM The girls back then were more sensitive to Nick Names. We were called other things that girls today would kill a guy for! I went through school being called "Little Victor". I always thought it was because I was a tomboy and loved sports and didn't look like a man :-). Later, when I was a cheerleader, Tony Malvasia called me Thunder Thighs. God, I hated that...oh well...still have em! Rowing improved them too! LOL! My group: Charlie Gobel-CG, Gobs Jimmy Sarubbi- Sarub Barbara Hirt- Hirty Girty Barbara Esposito-Espo (but all the Espos in town were "Espo", so it was Barb Espo, Janet Espo.... Michael Lessack- I think we called him Lester Joey Ragosta- Rags Have to think more.

RE: Nick Names Posted Tuesday, June 16, 2009 01:55 AM For a lot of the years I was in school, i shared a locker with the infamous Frankie Gaetano, known as the "Beaver". We had a great relationship and got such a big kick out of each other. He was the funniest kid! When we were young and played down #6 school, the older kids would send Frankie down to the candy store on Bergen Blvd. to get some licorice. They made him run all the errands and he did it gladly to get in with the older kids. They were the ones who nicknamed him "the Beaver", after the then TV Show kid. On TV, the Beaver was the younger brother who did anything Wally and Eddie Haskel said...
