I remember buying maroon benchwarmers in Schlesinger's, desert boots or penny loafers in Thom Mcann, Italian shoes in Florshiem's, there was also a big Army and Navy store.  Rogers didn't have the same quality as Schlesinger's for shirts or shoes.  Mostly these  stores were expensive (especially if you worked the local A & P).  Our next step was to go to Jewtown (near Canal ST, NYC) where you could get the same pair of shoes, Italian knits or leather jackets for half the price.  After that we (guys) bought our bell bottoms and Henley shirts at Broccoli's (west new york), Connections (csp) or Strawberries (? Fort LEE).
