Tayanda graduated with the class of ’89 although many doctors declared she would never see her 16th birthday.
Although she suffered pain for 30 of her 35 years of life, she rarely displayed the effects this deadly disease had on her. Anyone that knew her can attest to her friendly smile and the words of encouragement she would offer to lift your spirits while hiding her physical pain. A very poetic person, she was one who could drop the most profound words on a simple notepad, creating poetry that would make your head spin. Oh, but let’s not forget about the artist in her. She attended The Art Institute of Atlanta to further her burning artistic abilities. I would often joke with her that her people portraits always resembled each other, thus creating never-ending relationships.

Tayanda was the most caring and loving person that I have known. She was always there for me when I needed a friend. It had been years since we had seen each other but when my mother passed, she found me. Not only did she reach out to me and my family, she spoke at my mother's funeral. She was a true and and will be cherished and loved always. You are greatly missed.
