In Memory

William (Bryant) Dougherty

The USAFA Prep School class of 1970 lost WILLIAM B. DOUGHERTY.  Bryant died in 1990 of melanoma.  Bryant, and his twin brother, Mark (now a retired colonel), were both USAF fighter pilots.  Their father, General Russell E. Dougherty, was an air power pioneer and dynamic leader of the Strategic Air Command.

My sincere sympathy and prayers to the beloved family and friends of an American Warrior, William Dougherty. Human words can't express the sorrow and grief we all share but I believe in the Lord of Hope and Comfort who has words of truth and life.

I join with all my classmates who were honored to share a part of the jouney of life with William and now, in prayer, lift His precious soul to the Good Shepherd.

"Lord, guard and guide those who fly and those who keep them flying."

With all respect,
Chaplain, Col Lyle E. "Von" Seggern, USAFR

James (Doc) Holaday

One Saturday night I was serving CQ in the headquarters building and I took a phone call for Bryant. It was his dad, Lt Gen Dougherty, flying overhead in a KC-135. Bryant was signed out to go skiing, so his dad and I talked for a couple of minutes. He asked about my family and I told him my parents lived in the DC area. We said goodbye and I thought that was it. The next day my dad phoned all excited and said an Air Force 3-star general had called from a KC-135 to say he had just talked to me at the Prep School and that I was doing fine. Bryant came from pretty good stock.
