Kevin Casey:  I plan on attending the 2 October 2014 Prep School mini-reunion that is part of the ’74 Academy reunion.  A couple years ago, I dug out old 8 mm home movies in my Mom’s basement and had them processed onto a DVD.  There are about 5 minutes of Prep School segments intermingled with the family stuff.  I won’t have a laptop computer to play the DVD.  If one of you guys attending the 1030 Thursday event is willing to bring a laptop with DVD player, we can peruse these old Prep School movies.  They are grainy and you’ll have to suffer as we fast forward through the family stuff, but there are some clips that are likely to bring a smile.  Remember the C Squadron mouse on the string leash?

Happy Thanksgiving to all!  Many of you do not have emails in your profiles, so you do not receive email updates on our classmates.  Please update your profiles so we can all communicate more effectively.  Keep in touch!

Life brings you surprises all the time.  My wife and I were shopping at our local HEB grocery store this weekend in Austin, Texas, and I pass the guy in the isle.  I kept staring at him thinking he really looked familiar.  After about three passes ( and I am sure he thought I was stalking him) I finally approached him and asked him his name.  He looked at me confused and said, "Mike".  Then it hit me and I replied, "Mike Eck?".  He said yes, and I said I am Mike Edwards from the Prep School and the mini-renunion began.  I know our wives were wondering if we would ever stop telling stories about the Prep days.  Eck remembered me having a car that we started parking in the AP parking lot outside C squadron the last semester.  This just reaffirms that we REALLY need to have a Prep school reunion, or at least a mini-C Squadron reunion.  Steve Moran, Ed Norton, "Mouse" Newman, Jim Garrity, etc. I am inviting any and all of you to come to Austin in the spring and let's rekindle what was probably one of the most important and formative years in all of our lives.  We have plenty of room for guest and we can really make it a fun LONG weekend or week.  Let's not ignore this before it is too late.  Merry Christmas to everyone and thanks for the memories.

Are any of you guys going to the "74 Reunion in November.  I see that they are also doing a mini-Prep School reunion/tour that Thursday.  I have talked with Ed Norton and Steve Moran and I think they are considering coming for at least the Prep School portion and maybe stay over for the Army Air Force game on Saturday.  Since I left at the end of my 4th class year, the USAFA reunion that groups by graduation squadron would not be much sense for me as everyone was moved to different squadrons from my doolie 26th Squadron.  Would be nice to have one last Prep School gathering before any more of us are gone.

Below is the Renunion info and schedule.

CLASS OF 1974, 45TH REUNION

USAFA ’74 Classmates:

Save the Date — It is time to get your calendars out and begin planning for our 45th Class Reunion! The reunion will be from Oct. 30 to Nov. 3, 2019, with our base hotel again at the Antlers Wyndham in Colorado Springs. The Falcons will be playing Army on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2019 at 1:30 p.m.

Tom Hayden and the Reunion Committee have begun to organize our reunion. Every squadron has a POC for this Reunion. If you have not yet been contacted by your POC, please contact Tom at thayden74@comcast.net.

The Reunion Committee selected the Army weekend based on several factors, notably the input from the survey last summer, the weather, and game times. Based on positive class feedback, the committee again selected the Antlers Wyndham in the center of Colorado Springs for our 45th.

As usual, there will be plenty of activities, beginning with a small registration reception on Wednesday night, golf tournament on Thursday, reception on Thursday night, Cadet Area activities on Friday (open House, lunch at Mitchell Hall, meetings with staff, Memorial Service), followed by the Class Dinner at the hotel. Saturday will provide plenty of time for tailgating and the football game.

Our many thanks to all of you who answered Tom’s Reunion survey; about 200 responded and gave us comments. Through your inputs, we will continue to make our reunions better and better.

We want to ensure that we invite any ’74-classmate widows, and anyone else who started with the class in June 1970. All are invited. Please reach out to them and give Tom Hayden their contact information so we can include them in future mailings. Please continue to update your contact information.

Our reunion committee will be sending out at least two future mailings with hotel menus, class merchandise, and other registration information for the reunion.

Reunion Registrations will begin on July 15, 2019. The AOG 1974 Reunion website will be fully ready with appropriate links for all registrations — go to www.usafa.org (then “Events,” then “Class Reunions,” then “1974”) to register and to find updates.

You may make a hotel reservation now with the Antlers Wyndham by calling (719) 955-5600 or 866-299-4602. There is a ROOM BLOCK for $139 per night plus tax (includes parking this time): mention Class of 1974, 45th Reunion. Our backup hotel will be the Mining Exchange a block away.

All: Please contact classmates you know, encourage them to attend, and make your plans early. Looking forward to seeing all of you in November!

Forevermore,

45th Reunion Committee:

Tom Hayden, Scott Hamilton, Charlie Bryant, Robert Lowery, Ted Roth, Phil Inscoe, Rich Bowman, Joe Brezovic

Aloha Prep Schoolers!  Will miss you all at the USAFA '74 Reunion.  Due to health reasons i don't do anything "at altitude" anymore.  In July 2017 I was diagnosed with an auto-immune system, neuro-mucsular condition called Myasthenia Gravis (MG).  Won't bore you with details; more info available at www.myasthenia.org.  There is no cause, and currently no cure.  Controlling the symptoms with meds is the best that i can do. Enjoy the reunion and each other!  Wow!  50 years ago we were all young and beautiful ... well young anyway!  God Bless You All,  Steve and Suki Lenzi, Fort Walton Beach, FL.

Sorry to hear about your illness Steve Lenzi.  I was also hoping to make the USAFA Renunion, but after much thought and schedule conflicts I will not be able to come either, even though I have already signed up for it.  A couple years ago I took a really extensive private tour with some of my employees that we were in Colorado Springs for a business convention at the Broadmoor.  Arranged it thu the AOG/Sabre Society and we got to go to every place you would want to go.  Went all thru the Prep School and even into my old dorm room at C Squadron.  Then went through the Academy to places most tours don't get to go, and even to my old Doolie dorm room in 26th Squadron and field house.  So seeing the Academy again can't beat that tour.  I was hoping to see some of my old C Squadron and Prep School football teammates but most of them are not going from what I can determine, including Steve Moran.

So have chosen to miss this reunion.  Would be kind of hard anyway because I left after my 4th class year to transfer to Arkansa to play football and all my 4th Class 26th Squadron classmates were transferred to other squadrons which became your graduation squadron, so wouldn't have any connections at the Academy squadron sponsored functions.  I do have 6 great tickets for the Army game that Saturday in Section 9 Row Q Seats 25-30 and 3 parking passes if anybody wants them.

Hope you guys have a great time and Beat Army.

Just wanted to post that our 6th grandchild arrived on May 22: Cole Jonathan Titus, so he's anchoring the clan at almost one week. Next in order is George Hiatt, 12 mos; Troy Titus, 24 mos; Lizzie Hiatt, 3 1/2; James Hiatt, 6 yrs; and, Brock Titus, 12 yrs. James likes hitting golf balls with me; Lizzie has her own putter and does some in my basement office. Have hopes that she, George, and Cole will all join James and I (and their dads) on the golf course in the future. I remember being in the bottom right hand room where the "S" in Huskies is painted, rooming wtih Tim. Good fun that year. Best wishes to everyone for a better year in 2021 than you had in 2020.

A recent road trip to the coast gave Jane and I the opportunity to visit with Joe Brezovic in Lompoc, CA. Joe met us at the Purisma Mission and gave us his "personally guided tour". We took this time to brief each other on the last 50 years of living and "dust off" some old memories. God willing, we'll get the chance to do it again.

Update from Oct 2nd - still without power or water with no encouraging word from authorities.  100% power outage in our zip code. All Lee County hospitals were evacuated until they get their water restored. Death toll starting to pile up. Please pray for all those who lost loved ones. Thankfully we are not in that group but we do have a close friend that has lost her mobile home to the surge that went up 5 feet inside her home. Her name is Patty and has worked in Aviation  most of her life. She just moved here from Wichita.

Jennifer and I survived hurricane Ian. Our 5th floor condo in Cape Coral just across the river from Fort Myers took pretty much a direct hit but seems pretty unscathed. Thank you, God, for the hurricane windows we just had installed! Boat seems to have made it through but the Dock tore away from the sea wall and is destroyed. The boat stayed on the lift shifting a few feet forward. We have a classic Vette show car...a bit past it's prime for that but still nice enough to turn a few heads. The morning of Ian after we heard the news Ian amped to a Car 5 and turned toward us doubling previous surge predictions to 12-18 ft, we moved it to a second story garage at the airport and headed for a boat in Lauderdale. The 10' or so surge we actually got managed to stay out of the 1st flloor garage which is 10' above sea level in Cape Coral on the Caloosahatchie. I hope the rest of us in Florida did at least as well as we did. God is great.       Thanks for reaching out to all of us Floridians Doc. Our Governor call Ian a 500 year event.

Sandy and I are fine.  We live on the 4th floor of a 5 story condo building on the East coast just north of Delray  Beach.  We had a lot of rain and a light blow, less than 50mph,  no damage.  Our fun cars are in a concrete and block building with a steel roll up door about 4 miles inland.  Our hearts go out to those that live in the Southwest of Florida and in the Keys.  There by the grace of God go us.  Part of living in Florida.
