Life Reflections

Mr. Alexander Shell was born on January 19, 1960 at Columbia Hospital in Columbia, SC.  He was the son of the late Burdell Swygert and the late Minnie Pelzer Shell.  He attended Crane Creek Elementary School, Heyward Gibbes Middle School and Eau Claire High School.  As a teen he enjoyed sports, particularly Track and Field, and basketball.  Later he learned to play chess, checkers, and most of all enjoyed listening to music of all kinds.

"Alex" was part of a large family and always liked visiting with family members.

He is survived by his brother, James Shell Jr., of Columbia, SC; 11 sisters: Elizabeth Shell Carr and Diane Purvis of Brooklyn, NY; Rev. Gloria Mitchell of Hawthorne, CA; Cynthia McNeil of Nashville, TN.; Melinda Shell of Hampton, VA.; Gwendolyn Jeffcoat, Atlanta, GA; Deborah Reese, Pensacola, Fl.; Bessie White, Newberry, SC; Melba Shell, Mattie Render, and Josephine Boyles all of Columbia, SC.  He also leaves (4) brother-in-laws: William Purvis, Tyrone Reese, Willie McNeil, and Ralph Boyles.  (1) Sister-in-law Shirley Shell.  A beloved nephew, Alphonso Shell and a host of nieces, nephews, uncles, cousins and friends of Columbia and West Columbia, South Carolina.
