Bob Layfield

Attended Columbus Jr. College for two years, where I played basketball. I then attended Troy State College, where I received a BS in Education and Auburn, where I received a Masters and Six-Year Degree in School Administration and Supervision.
Spent 33 years in education in Columbus and Lagrange, Georgia. Retired in 1999 and moved to the mountains in Big Canoe, Georgia, where we lived for 20 years. In 2020 we moved to a CCRC in Rome GA called The Spires, which is located on the campus of Berry College. Berry College has the largest campus in the world with 26,000 acres and offers so much to us. 40 miles of hiking and biking trails, sports teams to follow, fine arts programs and auditing classes without having to take a test is just a few of the perks. This will be our forever home and we love the setting, the interaction with the Berry students and the town of Rome itself.

I attended Baker from the first through the twelth grade and Baker will always be special in my memories.
I still stay in contact with some of the friends that I made at Baker and when we start talking it is like we are sixteen again. Laughing while we tell and retell some of the stories that made Baker so special to us. Several of my close friends from Baker have passed away in the past few years and it makes me realize how fragile life is and how important it is to tell those we care about how they have influenced our lives before it is too late.

The best vacations I have ever been on were the ones we took as a family, when our children were young and during the years I had the summers off. We had a pop-up camper and we traveled from one coast to the other including two trips into Canada. The longest trip lasted for six weeks and our children still talk about those trips today.
