Rose and I spent graduation night visiting others graduates. She was living in Anoka and I was living in Circle Pines. As I drove her to her apartment down Main Street, a deer ran out in front of us. Thank goodness I had a 1965 Ford Galaxy 360, the buck hit the grill and slid up onto the hood resting his head on the windshield (DOA). Once we stopped screaming, we assessed that the radiator was ruined.
Rose encouraged me to join the Navy. A week after she entered the service I followed. Boot Camp was in Orlando Florida. Since we were in different Companies, we had to devise a way to meet. Twice, we "misbehaved"; I would play the class clown; and we would receive cleanup duty on the weekend. We would have so much fun sitting on the Officers patio talking. The other ladies, knew what Rose and I planned and insited we visit while they did the cleaning.
That was the last time I ever saw Rose. We had planned to meet in Minnesota once our enlistment was over (1976). However, when I arrived, I learned that Rose was undergoing cancer surgery out of state. Rose is interred at Fort Snelling.
