I have nothing but fond memories of Bobby Banks.  He was one of the first guys I met when moving to Corpus my senior year from a small town in Kansas.  He was always very friendly.  Years later after high school I ran into him in a grocery store and after that he and his wife and me and my girl friend (now my wife) went to dinner together.   That was the last time I saw him.

Knew Bobby Banks from junior high on.  Knocked around together after school. A good friend, fine guy.  Kept up with him for awhile after college, we were both in service: I, in the Navy; Bobby, a civil servant, I think. Last saw him at the 50th, and took him sailing. Believe he moved from Oklahoma to Fredericksburg after that reunion. Always intended to visit, but did not.  Lesson learned! Will miss him.

Robert Marion Banks Jr. (Texas Bobby)
December 27, 1941 - March 15, 2016
Robert Marion Banks Jr., 74, of Fredericksburg, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2016, at Hill Country Memorial Hospital.
Robert (Bobby) Marion Banks Jr.
was born in Dallas, Texas on Dec.
27, 1941. His parents, Robert M.
Banks Sr. and Hazel Bernice Hearne
Banks moved the family from Dallas
to Corpus Christi when Bobby was
12. He then graduated from W.B.
Ray High School. Highlights of Bobby’s youth were earning his Eagle Scout Award and taking an around- the-world scout journey as part of the 1959 Scouting Jubilee.
After high school graduation, Bobby attended Duke University, particularly relishing his studies in world religions and history.
Early on, he was fascinated with firearms and became an expert which much later in his life led to his assist- ing the Gilcrease Museum in Tulsa (renowned for their Western Art Collection) to accurately identify weapons in paintings and catalogue them.
After his marriage to Joanne Elizabeth Banks, Bobby continued his education and graduated with a BA in Economics from Texas College of Arts and Industries (now Texas A&M) in Kingsville while working in sales with both R.J. Reynolds and Pet Milk.
Bobby began his career with the Department of the Army as an intern, progressing rapidly into jobs from Campus Recruiter, Chief of Management Employee Relations, Assistant to Equal Employment Opportunity Officer and Assistant to the Surgeon General — finishing his career as Assistant to the Assistant Secretary of the Army.
Although ending in their divorce, Bobby and Joanne were the parents of three wonderful children: Elizabeth, Robert M. Banks III and Amy.
Bobby and Barbara Ann (Mitcham) Banks met in Washington, D.C. and after a long-distance mutual admiration relationship relocated to Barbara’s home- town, El Paso and married at the Border Folk Festival at the Chamizal National Memorial.
Since his retirement from Civil Service, Bobby has worked as Vice President of an El Paso Builder, Vice President of Pink Jeeps in Sedona, Arizona and Manager and weapons advisor at Cowboy Corral in Sedona (where he was nicknamed “Texas Bobby”), and finally as a docent at the Tulsa Zoo and Gilcrease Museum before relocating to Fredericksburg in 2011.
Bobby is survived by his wife, Barbara Ann Banks, and their children: Susan Mitcham Roets and husband, Steve; Scott A. Mitcham and wife, Marcey; Elizabeth Banks Harris and husband, Tom; son Robert M. Banks III and wife, Karen, and Amy Banks Dillemuth and husband, Fred, plus 10 grandchildren.
Memorial services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 19, at Fredericksburg United Methodist Church, with Rev. George E. Lumpkin officiating.
Entombment services followed in the Fredericksburg United Methodist Church Columbarium.
Those who so desire may make memorial contribu- tions to the Fredericksburg United Methodist Church, Hill Country SPCA, or to the charity of one’s choice.
Arrangements were under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home.

I too have fond memories of Bobby, especially from First Methodist Church.  We both did a lot with the youth group there and also were very interested in attending Duke University.  Bobby did go to Duke and I ended up at SMU.  Peace and sweet memories to his familly.....

Bobby and I were close friends for several years in Jr. High and High School. I knew about him living in Oklahoma, and I always hoped to stop and visit when coming back to Texas (I live in the far nort land!), but I never did. I'm sorry to hear that he is gone. May he rest in peace and rise in glory. May light perpetual shine upon him.
