Comments:

Still retired, of course, riding a wonderful horse in pursuit of hounds in pursuit of the fox, gardening, traveling, going to plays and concerts--how did I have time for teaching and research at the university!

I do work a bit in revising my college textbook on instruction and in managing a small educational products company specializing in vocabulary development. Find at www.dynamicliteracy.com if your curiosity impels you.

My wife and I have five grandsons and one granddaughter now, a basketball team and a pretty cheerleader, I say at risk of sexism.

I just might come to the next reunion if it's held. I enjoy keeping up with birthdays and knowing so many are still around enjoying life as I am. Thanks, Coke, for keeping us up to date.

School Story:

I am sure I became a teacher and went all the way through graduate school owing to our wonderful tenth grade plane geometry teacher, whose name slips my mind. I think my life-long love of learning was given birth by my academic experience at Ray. Just last year I took a college course in geology; it changed my thinking about many things, mainly the very concept of time. I know I will never cease to be a student, thanks to our wonderful experiences in high school. I just never got over it, bitten by the love of learning.

Thank you for your sincere comments. And please accept my profound apology for any part I might have played in commission of the prejudice you refer to. David Amaya was one of my closest friends in childhood, yet I am sure my behavior was no compliment to him or other Latinos. Thank you for listening to my regrets.

Happy birthday. Hope your day is full of joy, as at our age every day should be, if only because of our luck in still being around in search of octogenariamism! Best wishes on a special day.
