We moved around because my husband of 37 years was a pilot in the US Navy. After his retirement in Hawaii (2000), we lived in San Diego and finally settled in Jacksonville, FL in 2002. Between spending time with kids, grandkids, running a business, and paddling, I stay quite busy! I love my life and vow never to get old in spirit.

What are you doing these days, and how has that changed over the years? Career/Job/Passions/Interests/Hobbies/Travel?

I began testing children and adults for learning challenges, austism spectrum, dyslexia, and giftedness in 1985. Eventually, I opened my own private practice in 1997 and still have it today.

I started a non-profit for women with cancer in 2009 called In the Pink. Fifteen years later, I have cared for 20,000 cancer patients! Still astonishing to me:) I hope I can see 20,000 more in the years to come.

My husband and I are avid dragon boaters (paddlers) and are lucky enough to be able to travel the world competing. He represents the USA on Team USA, coaches my team of breast cancer survivors (the Mammoglams), and all the teams in Jacksonville Dragon Boat Club.

What have you learned about yourself and what would you advise your 1974 self?

That I can survive anything. It's all about surrounding yourself with positive people and asking for help when you need it. I'm pretty Type A, so that part used to be really hard for me.

I would advise my 1974 self to enjoy the ride, stay true to yourself, and don't sweat the small stuff.

What are you most proud of?

Like many, I am very proud of my family. As for me personally, I have accomplished things well beyond what I ever imagined.

What's next?

Keep paddling, stay young at heart, and keep helping surivors learn that they can not only survive, but thrive.

Who do you consider family these days?

My husband, my kids, grandkids, pseudo-adopted kids, my 91 year old mother, and some truly great friends.

You look just the same! More importantly, you look just as happy as always. You pushed through the trials and tribulations, coming out on the other side with the realization of what is really important in life. Stay young and happy!
