School Story, funny or otherwise:

One enjoyable time I remember in High School was taking drivers training with Bill Viverto and Pat Lock. They were both crazy and full of fun and I was introverted and shy. I really had fun being a part of that group.

Comments?

I served a tour in Marine Corps. I've spent 48 years as a banker, and am now retired. My wife, Renee and I have been married for 46 years and have 2 sons and 7 grandkids. We're both saved and love to serve the Lord. We've had a wonderful life with no regrets and have very much to be thankful for. I now serve on several boards, play a lot of golf and really enjoy gardening and landscaping.

What physical maladies do you have (so we can compare ailments)?

None so far. God has been very good...no real health issues beyond the normal creakiness and minor pains of living in this 70 year old body!

Favorite foods?

I love good food...everything my wife makes!

What was the most outrageous thing you did during high school?

I was pretty much the geek...can't remember doing anything beyond the norm. Oops, forgot; a group of about four of us drove up in the Covina Hills early one morning and picked up a full trash can that had been set out and carried it out the window at a speed of about 35 mph and let er go. What a mess and later an awful guilt trip, even though we were never caught.

What do you like/dislike about being older?

I enjoy the freedom from the responsibilities and pressures of the hectic, executive culture. I found the corporate lifestyle takes more from you than it gives! I like the fact that younger folks seek me out for counsel on financial issues.
I love having the time and freedom to spend with my wife to do all the things we've dreamed about for forty plus years.

Have you met any famous or interesting people?

Yes, I had lunch with John Wooden just after he won his first National Basketball title. He was one of the most gracious men I've ever had the privilege of meeting.

Hobbies/what do you do in your spare time?

Golf, Garden and teach financial principles classes. I have also restored numerous classic cars over the years and am now focused on a 1970 Charger R/T 440...(pictures attached) it's almost done and probably my last restoration. We also love to travel in our R.V. and visit friends, relatives and see places we've dreamed of but never visited.
Board Sec.-Boise Rescue Mission
Business Manager-Treasure Valley Baptist Church
Board Member-Canyon County Community Clinic
Board Member-Nampa Rotary Club
Board Member-Nampa Chamber of Commerce

Claims to fame! - been in movies, on tv, newspapers, any inventions, awards?

I've been on T.V. a few times (bank related) and also been quoted in newspapers, etc. (also bank related)

Have you done anything really dangerous?

Got married! Served in the Marine Corps. Skydiving in my early 60's. Participated in a back to bootcamp challenge at Marine Corps Recrut Depot, San Diego when I was 64...I know, really stupid!

At what age did you REALLY become a "grownup" and why?

In my early twenties. I flunked out of College and was fortunate to land a job in a bank as a teller. That job established a career opportunity that became my passion for 48 years. During that same time I received my draft notice so I joined the Marine Reserves so I could continue my banking career. The realities of Viet Nam made me realize that life is serious business. I decided that if I were ever going to amount to anything, I had better get started. I went on to finish my schooling and eventually (at 45) finished my masters in banking.

What are your military experiences?

U S M C. Honorably discharged as Seargent E-5.

What circumstances made you live where you do?

We moved to Idaho in 1975 to get away from the smog and congestion of Southern California. We wanted a more "family friendly" place to raise our kids and were looking for a smaller community. We have never been sorry for that decision!

Where have your travels taken you over the years?

Literally all over the world. I've worked in Zambia, Africa, been to Europe, South America, Mexico, Hawaii, the Caribbean, Canada, and all over the United States. We love to travel!

Is there anything you wish you had done in your life but didn't (or haven't yet)?

Nope!

Any classmates you would like to locate?

Mike Archerd.

What are the names of your favorite movies?

Chariots of Fire; Remember the Titan's; The bucket list;

Of what in your life are you most proud?

Next to being saved at the age of 28, the honor of spending over 46 years with the love of my life and having two fine, Christian young men we can proudly call our sons.

What was the most memorable Christmas gift you received as a child?

A basketball and boxing gloves.

Name some of your favorite books.

Bible
Nevada
Glory Land
all of Jim Collins books
All of Stephen Covey's books
Love historical books
Books covering war-from Rome to present
Sports stories
Humor
I guess I just love to read and expand my horizons!

Ever broken any bones and how did it happen? Or broken someone else’s bones?

1. Broke my wrist my Junior year in High School doing a dismount from the high bar in gymnastics. That one got me kicked out of typing and into men's chorus...what a bummer!
2. Broke my nose twice playing basketball, as well as a couple of fingers, an ankle, and two ribs (over 35 years of playing city league). Who says basketball is a non-contact sport?

Where were you when President Kennedy was assassinated?

I was working the drive-up teller window for the First National Bank of Nevada in Las Vegas.

Ever been to a pro football game? Which one?

Too numerous to list.

Have you attended a past high school reunion? Which one/s?

Yes, the 10th, 45th and 50th.

If I knew then what I know now, I would have:

I have no regrets! I would not change a thing.

Where were you born and what were the circumstances (dad in the military? mom didn't make it to the hospital in time? born in an airplane?)?

Born in Torrence, Ca. but conceived in Ohio. My dad transferred to L. A. to work in the war effort at McDonnell Douglas. We moved to West Covina in 1949 and Covina in 1956...Dad got a new job and we moved closer to his work.

Tell us your love story/stories - how did you meet, how long after did you get married, have a big wedding/Las Vegas/Justice of the Peace perform it? Where did you go on your honeymoon/s

I met my wife when she was 7 and I was 12...I let her ride my bicycle! We started dating when she turned 18 and were married 6 months later in Covina at St. John's Lutheran Church.

What was the hardest thing you ever had to do?

When we sold the bank I was working for I was in charge of branch operations and human resources. In order to merge the two banks successfully I was charged with reducing annual payroll by $1.5mm. Since I had hired most of the staff, letting so many of "my family" go was a very difficult and upsetting challenge. Fortuately we accomplished a lot through attrition over 6 months and I was able to find work for most everyone else in other banks in our market.

Did you go camping as a kid? Memories?

You bet! sometimes we just put up a tent in the back yard, built a campfire and roasted hot dogs. I have great memories of those years, especially pre-teen.

Ever own or ride on a motorcycle?

Yes, and have the scars to prove it.

Did you ride on the roller coaster or the double Farris wheel at the Long Beach Pike?

Yes, quite a few times. My older brother Bill made me at first, and then I got used to it and actually enjoyed it after awhile.

Tell us your favorite joke.

My wife has made me promise not to tell any jokes! she's the commedian in our family, and I'm the serious straight guy!

When and why did you move to Covina? What grade did you start school in Covina? Please share your memories.

1956. Dad got a new job. My first experience was at the old campus shared with West Covina. I was from West Covina and had grown up with all those kids, but as a Covina student found that the friendships did not transfer and was considered an outsider by my old friends and a newcomer by the Covina group. Not a fun first year! I think I was the smallest kid in our class most of my high school years and spent too much time as the butt of too many practicle jokes.

How did the 1960's affect you? It was so different from the 1950's and many of you were in college, etc. Did you participate in anti-war or civil rights marches/demonstrations? Did you live in a commune? Do love-ins? Wear beads? Tell us your experiences.

I started my banking career combined with service in the Marines which proved to settle me in more as a conservative. I did not appreciate the free thinking, pot smoking, anti-war protestors. I especially did not appreciate the way we in the military were treated at a time when we were risking our lives to protect the freedoms that allowed that crowd to demonstrate. I love this country and did not appreciate seeing it divided like it was in those years!

What nicknames do you have/had?

Dumbo (my ears were bigger than my head), dork, Zim, Beamer, and Snorkie.

Do you have any tatoos? Where? What do they say?

Nope. I missed getting the standard USMC tattoo that most of my Marine buddies got. I was sick the weekend they went to town, got drunk and ended up with their tattoos. After seeing their remorse, I stayed sober and gave those Tattoo Parlors wide berth.

Have you seen Ringling Bros. Circus?

Yes...several times.

What Broadway plays have you seen?

Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera, Annie, to name a few!

What talent would you most like to have?

Play scratch golf.

What is your greatest extravagance?

As a very conservative banker; A motorhome...something I always advised my customers never to purchase. Oh well, we are of the "do as I say, not as I do" generation, aren't we?

Did you have any secret crushes in high school? Come on...you can tell 50 years later...

Are you kidding? I had a secret crush on so many girls in high school it would be embarrassing to mention them all!

Have you been to Washington, D.C.?

Yes, Renee and I visited finally in 2007 with my youngest son and his family.

In school, what were your favorite subjects to study?

P. E., Art, Accounting and Mechanical Drawing.

Can you drive a standard shift car?

Yes

Who are your heros in real life?

The Lord Jesus Christ is definitely first, and honestly, anyone who lives the life he has called us to live would fit into the "Hero" category. Our country is full of them dating back to our founding fathers and beyond. Today we have several Generals in the military who fit the mold in that they are selfless and stand tall to defend righteousness.

What are you asking Santa for this Christmas?

Continued blessings for our kids, grandkids, immediate family and friends...you're all included in that as well!

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

An eternity with Christ in heaven. Unfortunately we all will have to wait to achieve it...if we're saved!

Have you been on a cruise? Have you seen Ole Faithful Geyser? Have you been to the top of the Seattle Space Needle? Have you ridden on a San Francisco Trolley? Have you been to the top of the Empire State Building? Been to Tijuana, Mexico? Been to Niagara Falls?

Yes to all of them.

If you could meet any celebrity or other personality in the world, who would it be and why?

The Lord, Jesus Christ. He is our Lord and Savior...I have read so much about him, I would love to meet him face to face. Guess I'll have to wait for heaven!

If you were granted three wishes from an angel or genie what would you want?

That eveyone would realize their helpless, hopeless condition and accept Christ's free gift of eternal life, get saved and know they will spend an eternity with Him in heaven.

What was you favorite TV show in the 50's?

Gunsmoke, Leave it to Beaver and Ponderosa.

What has been your most memorable 4th of July celebrations?

Dinner on the grounds at Church and then stay up late and enjoy the fireworks put on by the City of Meridian just across the street from the Church.

If you thought they would listen to you (yeah, right!), what advice would you give to your grandkids or the upcoming generation of kids?

Serve God, be honest, trustworthy and embrace integrity. Always do right, no matter what the cost. Read the Bible and pray every day. Seek for wisdom, righteousness with all your heart!

You're stranded on a desert island....and your fantasy would be that you would share it with whom??

My wife and the Word of God.

What did you do on your summer vacation?

Spent 3 months in San Diego in our motormome.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Rich. Well, what did you expect?...I was a kid!

How old would you be if you didn't know how old you are?

23

Where were you and what were you doing on 9/11? How did it make you feel? Has it changed your life?

On my way to work. I was flabbergasted at first, then just plain angry. Yes, the evilness in man is a sobering reality, and something I can't ever seem to come to grips with.

If your house was on fire, what would you take on your way out?

My Bible.

How would you describe yourself in three words?

Way too serious!

If you won a million dollars, what would you do with it?

Give most of it to the Lords work.

My heart goes out to Sharon's family and loved ones. She was such a blessing to so many people (me included). Her love of the Lord was so strong she touched every one she met with that sweet spirit. I know she's in heaven with my wife and they are enjoying their reward in the presence of the Lord. The world has lost another saint of God and we grieve for her loss and rejoice in her home going! Thank you Sharon for your love and friendship...rest in peace!

Marilyn,
I received a note from you today after having been asked to friend you. I know Facebook has been broached before and people try to scam you by using a name you know…so was it you or should I be careful?
Thank you and Merry Christmas!

I got to know George just prior to our 45th reunion and we ended up traveling together to Laughlin as we both live in Idaho. We shared a love for old cars and attended a couple of car shows together. Regrettably we lost contact in recent years due to health issues within our families. George you will be missed...rest in peace.
