Oh my God, there is not enought room for all the funny memories. Check with me, Richard Foley and Jim Starkovitch at the next reunion. Give us an hour and we will entertain you. I miss Sharon Price and Chris Ochs. My first loves at Covina. Sharon Barker, you are also one I miss. Remember, you dumped me and I deserved it. Scavenger hunting at Jane Mansfield and Groucho Marks houses!

Teaching and Coaching baseball. Taught at Covina High for 8 years,then left teaching for awhile then started again at Don Bosco HS for 5 years.Currently at Whittier HS for the past 15 years. I am also entering my 12th year at Citrus College as the assistant baseball coach. I have coached 4 National championship teams, my 1970 Colt World Champions were inducted into Cooperstown. I have also coached several players who are currently in or have played in the big leagues. Corey Lidle, NY Yankees; Michael Young, Texas Rangers; Aaron Rowand, SF Giants; Jason Giambi, NY Yankees, Colorado Rockies, Jeremy Giambi, Oakland A's, Arron Small, NY Yankees, Rob Wilfong; Minnesota Twins and Los Angeles Angels. Ed Putman; Atlanta Braves. Steve Rametta; Cleveland Indians, Larry Gonzales, Los Angeles Angels.

What physical maladies do you have (so we can compare ailments)?

None of significant importance at this time. I did have a stent put into one of my heart arteries a few years ago and I am still alive and kicking. Suffer at times with Arthritis.

Favorite foods?

Chinese, Italian (of course)! Anything sweet. Chocolate cream and Banana Cream Pie from Marie Calanders. Sometimes Mexican food since my wife is Mexican/Spanish.

What was the most outrageous thing you did during high school?

Going on scavenger hunts with Foley,Starkovitch, Ownbey and who ever was nutty enough to come along. We went to Grocho Marx house and got thrown out. Then we went to Jane Mansfield house and thought we found a dead body in a car parked in her driveway, but he was only dead drunk. We also hitch-hiked to Long Beach with weights in our suitcases took the big white steamship to Catalina then got thrown off the Island for not having a place to stay. We hid our luggage but the police found it and confiscated it and waited for us to show up to claim it, then escorted us off the Island.

What do you like/dislike about being older?

I never get to see Chris Ochs, Sharon Price, and every other girl I had a crush on. I would name them all, but there is not enough room. Opps, I cannot forget Sharon Barker and the girls in the Mixed Choir.

Mickey Mantle, Derek Jeter, Joe Torre, Regie Jackson, Mike Scoscia, Don Sutton, Maury Wills, Tommy Davis, Jim Lefebvre, Duke Snider, Tommy Lasorda, Rod Carew, Jose Canseco, Mark McGuire, Jason Giambi, Michael Young, Aaron Rowand, Magic Johnson, Dr. J, James Worthy

Hobbies/what do you do in your spare time?

I collect baseball cards and memorabilia. I work on my front and backyards. I like to garden; wierd huh? I could retire on the worth of my baseball room alone.

Claims to fame! - been in movies, on tv, newspapers, any inventions, awards?

In 1970 my Colt League World Champions and I were inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY and in the Hall of Fame in Covina and West Covina! We were the 1st youth league team to win an International World Series. We were 20-0 Coach of Year in the Del Rio League. We were and still are the only team to go undefeated (15-0) in 2003. I was also teacher of the year in 1998.

Have you done anything really dangerous?

Just living in LA is dangerous enough. Driving with Richard Foley and Jim Starkovitch anywhere especially in Hollywood on Sunset Strip or on the way to Huntington Beach on Beach Blvd. going 120 mph. We passed a cop and he didn't even bother to try and catch us.

At what age did you REALLY become a "grownup" and why?

I haven't reached that age yet.

What are your military experiences?

Diognosed with Thyriod Cancer and given 4F Medical exemption.

Teaching and Coaching

Where have your travels taken you over the years?

Arizona, Nevada, Oregon, Oklahoma,Texas, Utah, Indiana, Florida,Illinois,Pennsylvania, New York, Ohio, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Tennessee, Georgia, Michigan,Wisconsin,Hawaii, Maui, Oahu, Puerto Rico, Haiti, Mexico, the Virgin Islands.

Is there anything you wish you had done in your life but didn't (or haven't yet)?

I want to visit Sicily, I have relatives there and would love to visit and research my family tree.

Any classmates you would like to locate?

Sharon Price, my first girlfriend that Richard Foley and Jim Starkovitch made me brake a date with so we could cruise Hollywood one night. I lied to her of course, then the next day she broke up with me over the phone. I ended the conversation with okay I've got to go mow the lawn. The following day while walking to class she was walking toward me, but from across the way Jerry Barron yells out "go mow the lawn"! I have not seen her since, but would love to see her again some day.

Tell something about yourself that would surprise us?

I'm Gay--surprise!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am just kidding. You have to be careful these days.

Of what in your life are you most proud?

That all the friends I have made over the years are still my friends. That I got to teach young boys and girls for 27 years. That I coached so many players who went on to be very successful in professional baseball, college, the minor leagues and life in general. And, that I got to do what I always dreamed I would do; teach and coach.

What was the most memorable Christmas gift you received as a child?

My ten-speed bike, that I crashed on the first day I rode it. Thanks to my cousin Rick Guerra!

No, but I had both legs in a cast in the seventh grade at Traweek from Osgood Schlaters desease.

Can't remember I have CRS=can't remember shit. But I think I was home watching TV.

Ever been to a pro football game? Which one?

Many times. Rams and the Raiders

Have you attended a past high school reunion? Which one/s?

All of them.

If I knew then what I know now, I would have:

Dated all of the girls I had crushes on, if they would have said yes of course!

Where were you born and what were the circumstances (dad in the military? mom didn't make it to the hospital in time? born in an airplane?)?

I was born in Buffalo, NY at St. Joseph's Hospital and the correct spelling of my name according to my birth certificate is Viverito. My dad changed the spelling when we moved to California. I think the Mafia was after him. Ha, ha.

Tell us your love story/stories - how did you meet, how long after did you get married, have a big wedding/Las Vegas/Justice of the Peace perform it? Where did you go on your honeymoon/s

Can't cause if my wife reads this she will kill me.

What was the hardest thing you ever had to do?

Tell my wife I couldn't go to her favorite restaurant because I had Yankee tickets. She was really upset. But she got over it, I think????

Did you go camping as a kid? Memories?

Never, Italians don't camp. We would be wasting valuable time, cause you cannot make pasta and sause over an outdoor fire.

Ever own or ride on a motorcycle?

Never!!!

Did you ride on the roller coaster or the double Farris wheel at the Long Beach Pike?

Yes, once. Bill Howley and Dave Welty made me and I never did it again.

When and why did you move to Covina? What grade did you start school in Covina? Please share your memories.

My family moved to Covina in 1954. I then attended Traweek Jr. High. We moved to Covina because my cousin Sam Provenzano's dad moved here first and told my parents how beautiful Covina was, so we moved from Bell.

How did the 1960's affect you? It was so different from the 1950's and many of you were in college, etc. Did you participate in anti-war or civil rights marches/demonstrations? Did you live in a commune? Do love-ins? Wear beads? Tell us your experiences.

You are kidding of course, to busy being involved playing baseball. No time for that stuff. Besides, my family would never allow that kind of involvement.

What nicknames do you have/had?

Only one, VERDO I think Harry Bishop started that on the freshman baseball team.

Do you have any tatoos? Where? What do they say?

One, an NY on my upper right arm.

Have you seen Ringling Bros. Circus?

No, just Circus Vargas.

What Broadway plays have you seen?

The Jersey Boys, and Phamtom of The Opera.

What talent would you most like to have?

I would love to able to play the Piano, I heard Chris Ochs play by ear once and was very envious. My mother could play also.

What is your greatest extravagance?

Baseball memorabilia of any kind.

Did you have any secret crushes in high school? Come on...you can tell 50 years later...

Just Chris Ochs.

Have you been to Washington, D.C.?

Yes, this past summer (2011). A great experience.

In school, what were your favorite subjects to study?

Believe it or not I actually liked English.

Can you drive a standard shift car?

Yes

Who are your heros in real life?

My parents, they struggled through many adversities and made a great life for me and my sister.

What are you asking Santa for this Christmas?

Good Health.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

The Yankees winning the World Series and me and my cousins Rick, Craig, and Alec being in attendance.

Which living person do you most admire?

My wife, for putting up with me.

Have you been on a cruise? Have you seen Ole Faithful Geyser? Have you been to the top of the Seattle Space Needle? Have you ridden on a San Francisco Trolley? Have you been to the top of the Empire State Building? Been to Tijuana, Mexico? Been to Niagara Falls?

I have been on two cruises. I have seen Ole Faithful, I have ridden on the San Francisco Trolley, I have been to the top of the Empire State Building twice, I have been to TJ many times, I have been to Niagara Falls, and almost fell over the rail as a kid.

If you could meet any celebrity or other personality in the world, who would it be and why?

JFK and find out why he fooled around with Marilyn Monroe.

If you were granted three wishes from an angel or genie what would you want?

To have 10 more wishes when I was done with the first 3.

Las Vegas, 1984

What did you do on your summer vacation?

This past summer my wife and family stayed at our time share in Maui.

I still don't know how old I am.

Home watching TV. I was in total shock,anger and total disbelief that this could actually happen in America.

My wife first, then as much of my memorabilia as possible.

An extroverted nutcase. That's two words, but close enough!

OMG! I am so sorry and very sad to hear about Sharon's passing. I will truly cherish the time we spent together in the mixed choir and becoming very good friends. She was a beautiful person inside and out! God Will welcome you with open arms. We the Class of 1960 has lost a wonderful person and classmate!!????????????
