I received an email from Judi McGuire that Jim had passed on December 16.  Judi noted that Jim's obituary was posted on facebook.  Following is a link to the mortuary Stonebriar Funeral Home and Cremation Services that handled Jim's services.

Obituary of James Nelson McGuire

James Nelson McGuire, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, peacefully passed away on December 16, 2023, at the age of 81. Born on April 16, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois, he was the son of Helen Louise James and James William McGuire, both of whom he joins in eternal rest.

Jim McGuire's journey was marked by dedication, hard work, and a steadfast commitment to his family. He graduated from Crete Monee High School in 1960, setting the foundation for a life filled with accomplishments and cherished memories. In nearly six decades of marriage, he shared a deep bond with his devoted wife, Judith Ellen McGuire, who survives him.

A loving father, Jim leaves behind his son, Michael William McGuire, who was the pride of his life. He adored and cherished his grandchildren, Andrew Edward, Alyssa Kaitlin, and Emmalin Addison McGuire, imparting wisdom and creating lasting memories with them. He was also a loving presence in the lives of Nicole Delise McGuire and Suzy Carr Fleisher and her children, Caitlin, Courtney, and Grant, sharing his wisdom and warmth with each of them.

Jim's professional journey was marked by diligence and entrepreneurship. He began his career as a proofreader at RR Donnelly and Sons in Chicago before venturing into entrepreneurship with the establishment of Colonial Car Wash in Steger, Illinois. Relocating to Texas in 1980, he continued to excel, working at Pandick Press in Houston and later running the Cow Hop Restaurant in College Station, Texas, situated just across from Texas A&M University.

Retiring to the Dallas area, Jim found joy in the vibrant community of Frisco Lakes a Del Webb Senior Living Community in Frisco, Texas. His love for his family was surpassed only by his passion for helping others. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests honoring Jim's memory through donations to the American Cancer Society, a cause close to his heart.

Jim McGuire will be remembered for his kindness, unwavering determination, and the love he shared with all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy lives on through the lives he touched, the memories he created, and the values he instilled in his family. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who were fortunate enough to have known him.

I remember Jim once commenting in high school, that he wanted to be an undertaker.  When I asked Jim about that many years later, he said that he never did make it (to being an undertaker).  I don't know if he was serious way back then or not.  When Jim sent pictures of his family, you could immediately tell that "Grandpa" was the best job he ever had.
