Toby Bohnert

Toby Bohnert

After graduation, Toby went to college at SEMO.  He got married and as soon as his wife graduated she took a teaching job on an Indian reservation in New Mexico. While out there he went to school in Flagstaff and eventually got a degree (majoring in History I think). They moved back here in the mid '90's and things were fine until he contracted colon cancer in late '98. He passed after a long battle in March of 2000. They never had any children.

I had a chance to visit with Toby about 6 months before he passed away. We met in St. Louis for an evening. He was in great spirits, pretty much accepting of his upcoming demise. He explained how happy he was to have experienced teaching in the Indian community and talked about his wife.

Toby was a dear friend from Sacred Heart days on. We'll miss his jovial spirit.

I just loved Toby! He was so funny! He did the best Curly impression. In our sophomore year, I asked him to the Sadie Hawkins dance, because he and I were friends and always joked around, so I knew I'd have fun with him. But he was so nervous that night that he couldn't loosen up. I was so surprised. I really missed him at this reunion.
