Wow the good they die young!!! I remember the night Joe and Mike Mortenson were in Mikes red Chevy Nova at McDonald's. They asked if I wanted to go with them...I didn't or I would be on this "memory" list. Joe was a really great guy. There wasn't any meaness in him. I have thought about their accident so many times...what if? Those were crazy years of rebellion and as Dylan said there was revolution in the air...some paid the ultimate price for their freedom...thanks joe
Joe would fall asleep and snore (loudly) in Mr. Winkelman's study hall - Winkelman would wake him eventually and apologize to him for disturbing his nap.
Boy I sure do remember that. He was a nice kid. That accident was terrible.
Joe was such a nice boy. He always "looked after me" at after game dances when Mike had to work ( who knows what goes on in the mind of teenage boys?) He really was a great guy! It was difficult to believe that two great guys were gone in one terrible accident. I also remember that the Jesse family had just lost their mother. And if I remember correctly, Joe's father died about a year after Joe. Too much heart ache for one family! I hope that Joe's brothers are doing good.
Joey was a great guy, and one of my best friends. I moved to crystal lake in 1960, and being the new kid from out of state, I got a little ribbing, maybe from some of you looking at this, ha. But Joey was the first one to befriend me, he helped me through that transition and we became really good friends. I was supposed to be with him and Mike that night, actually they were coming to get me when it happend, I thought they blew me off, then my older brother Jim came home and told me. Wow, two of my best friends in one night. Anyway Love and miss you guys, Joey and Mike, God Bless.
