John,
Happy Birthday! I thought I was going to write to you before your birthday knowing it was before mine but not quite remembering the date. I missed. I hope you had a nice day.
I know I did not acknowlege your note last year. It has been a challenging year. Nonnie died suddenly in April. She had been diagnosed with a form of blood disorder (cancer) in August 2020. She was being treated at Dana Farber and at the beginning of last year, the treatment that had been keeping her pretty stable began to fail and we were scrambling to see what the next move was. In March we had two consults regarding next steps, 1) a stem cell transplant; or 2) playing with her meds and perhaps switching to a different medication. She had just raised her dose at the time of her death. My kids have been great. My oldest daughter lives in Pasadena and has two girls. I spent 3 weeks out there in December. I also went up to Carmel and spent a few days with Serchuck. that was fun. My middle daughter is in the Boston area and my youngest is outside of NYC and has a son. We just spent a week together at our place in Quebec (quite cold). I am still working and trying to figure out my exit strategy. The people who work for me have been great, and I have been taking a lot of time. I just booked a trip to Africa for 3 weeks for this June. I am looking forward to that. I hope you and Pat and your growing family are all doing well. If I remember correctly you have a place in Atlanta and spend part of the winter there. Again, many happy returns on the day. Bruce
