Ann was a good friend and we did get in trouble together quite a bit. I was deathly afraid of her step-mom, June.
I worked for her at the Jewel on Williams Street.
I remember Ann doing wheelies in the parking lot of the Jewel! She was fearless. She had her struggles after her brain cancer, but met a great guy, Allan Van Hoozen and they were married. They traveled all over the world together. At her funeral I told him how blessed she was to have had him. He said..."No, I was the one who was blessed."
I was so in awe of her... after she got sick, she still managed to go back to College and get her degree with the help of her sorority sisters.
I found that amazing. I think of her often.

I did not know Ann well, but I remember she was always very fun to be around and was always willing to step in and give a helping hand on class projects.

Wish we had more like her.

I have some great memories of Ann from way back when. She had a great sense of humor and although we normally traveled in different circles, we did hang out occasionally. If my memory serves me correctly, there was a road out past McDonalds on Route 14 that led to her house on the North side of the lake. I went out there a few times and we just talked and had a good time. I am sorry to hear that she's gone.

I remember Ann having lived on the North Shore. She had a ski boat and was a pretty good slalom water skier. In summers prior to '69, Trina Nies and I would try to spray her dock while skiing as we approached Rumsey's point and she would do the same to our dock off Crandall Avenue. I didn't know that was Ann until years later, in '69.

At the very west end of the Lake there is a small park. described on the CL Park District website as:

Naoki Kamijima Park
Edgewater Drive and North Avenue - 2 acres
Edgewater offers a pier on Crystal Lake for fishing and rowing club enthusiasts and a playground designed for children ages 5 to 12. Kamijima Park is the headquarters of the Crystal Lake Rowing Club, a park district affiliate.

The park is named after the man who was senselessly gunned down while working across the street at the General Store (known as Montrym's back in the day).

There is a tree planted in the park with a plaque under it reading:

Planted in loving memory of Ann Lajeunesse. Raised on the North Shore of Crystal Lake, "Ann was as fragile as a banana yet strong as an OAK. Her wit and determination will always inspire those that know of her." Ronald R. Orist, 2000.

I remember Ann at the lunch table. Kidding around, laughing.
