Comments:

As of March 31, 2013 I finally joined the "leisure class"! I retired from Ericsson after almost 18 years as an Executive Assistant. Life is good!

My entire family, with the exception of my father (Oak Cliff/Adamson), went to Sunset, even my aunt and uncle and cousin. My mother graduated in 1933 with Judge Fite, Richard Morrill (Jane's dad), Bill Couch, and Hattie Wilbur (art teacher at Greiner). Mother also had Ira Lee for Geometry the first year he taught.

My Dad's father was a brick layer and they moved to Dallas in 1925 from their farm in Enid, OK so he would get a job. He ended up helping finish the smokestack on the roof of Sunset. Unfortunately though, they lived just inside the Oak Cliff HS boundary and Daddy didn't get to attend Sunset the fall it opened. He always hated that. Once the job was done, my grandfather moved back to OK but Dad wanted to stay in Dallas... and the rest is history.

School Story:

I have so many fun memories of my years at Sunset. I never appreciated what an excellent education I got in HS until I went to College. I appreciated everything Mrs. Hood taught me! Unfortuantely, I can't say the same for Mrs. Childers and her math teaching skills.

Miss Cleo Hammett was quite a trip in Art. She drank an awful lot of "cough syrup"...

Favorite teacher(s)

Mrs. Hood - best English teacher ever! I learned so much from her. Also adored Oma Ford.

Class friends I have kept in touch with over the years include

Rita Harden, Julia Jones Laxson, Karen Ross Williams, JoEllen Glasgow McVey, Edie Bredemeier Frazier (+ Eddie), Deborah Crowe Harrel, Jan Fite Miller, Anita Shaw Lyons, Doug Bazar

My old high school friends would be surprised to know

I was actually going to be an elementary art teacher, but life kind of got in the way. As it turns out I probably have made more money doing what I'm doing, but still, I have a frustrated artistic spirit in there.

I didn't, but I wish I had

Studied Interior Design (I know, I know, it's not too late - maybe after I retire, whenever that is).
I also wish I'd been a bit crazier. I was always afraid I'd get into trouble (and usually did because I always got caught), although I did have my moments. Oh, there are a few things I got away with, but those shall remain unmentioned...

So sad to hear of Frances' passing.  I used to see her sometimes around Richardson (she worked at a boutique where I shopped occasionally).  She was always so much fun.  RIP, Frances.

I am so saddened to hear about Anna Maria.  I only attended Rosemont for 1 year so it wasn't until I got to Greiner that I met her.  She was always to beautiful and smart.  I know she will be missed by family and friends, especially those who went all through 12 grades with her.  I understand her last hear of life was difficult so thoughts and prayers for Chip and family.  RIP Anna Maria.

I also knew Betsy from church.  Such a gracious and giving person.  I always enjoyed her posts regarding grief recovery.  She will be missed.  RIP Betsy.

Sallie Grace, what a pleasure to read all about your achievements. We shared some fun memories from Sunset. Interestingly, Mrs. Hood was also my absolute favorite teacher and a wonderful influence. I still remember most of what she taught us.

I was so saddened to read about Karen's death.  She was in my squad in Bisonettes (squad leader our senior year) and was a very good friend.  We shared some wonderful memories from Sunset.  Unfortunately, she only attended one of our class reunions and we had a great visit.  She was beautiful and so much fun!  I have missed her over the years.  RIP, beautiful Karen - you are missed.
