Sorry to hear about Joe. Last time I saw Joe was about 21 years ago. He had called me to see if he could come by and visit since we had not seen each other since high school. I have not heard from him since. We had a good visit, he told me that he owened a trucking business for many years and then sold it. At the time of our visit Joe said he started a fishing guide business on lake Texoma and was really enjoying it. Joe went to a private catholic elementry school before he enrolled at Franklin Jr. High in 8th grade. He played with me on the 8th and 9th grade football teams at Franklin and also the B Team at Hillcrest. Joe was a funny guy and he had the nicest Mom. He grew up over in the old Vickery Park area along with Bob Lewton. Joe, Bob and I use to run around together alot. It sure is sad to see so many of our classmates who have passed away.
Joe died in July 2016. I believe he passed away in Dennison but lived in Madill, Oklahoma. I had not seen him since high school when he and his two partners walked into the lobby of one of my CPA firms. He surprised me. One of our bookkeepers worked with his company. That occurred around 1977.
Joe played drums in a rock band with me one summer during high school. The next thing I know, he played on a number 1 single entitled "You Better Shop Around". I recall that the band featured Marc Benno and Alan Ravkind.
Joe belonged to the Catholic Church and attended the one in his home town of Madill, Oaklahoma. He did get into hunting and fishing as a guide. He also trained dogs. I remember the first time I visited him at his home in Vickery his huge German sheppard jumped me in the front yard. That dog didn't bark or give me a hard time. That memory parallels my perception of Joe, a large guy and pretty playful.
He married Karen in 1981. I don't know if he had previous marriages, but he had four kids and seven grandkids. I wish them all well.
I had a date with one of our classmates to the senior prom but Joe inserted himself in that arrangement a week before the dance. I had my eye that young lady for years but became tongue tied whenever I got around her. I don't remember with whom I eventually went. I spent much of my senior year in Austin or on a work permit giving guitar lessons at Minsky's Music.
