I can fill in a few sparse details of Susie Lautin's death in a mountain-climbing accident. I remember encountering Susie at the University of Michigan during my graduate studies and recall hearing of her death some months later, so it must have been in the early to mid 1970s. I cannot locate an obituary on line, so I write this from memories of nearly forty years.

Susie and her husband were active mountain climbers. During one of their climbing trips,  her husband (I do not remember his name)  fell and was injured.  Susie rushed to get help and in the process, took a fatal fall.

This was a great tragedy and the loss of a brilliant and kind person.  I think of Susie often and remember that she died trying to save someone she loved.  I believe that her husband survived.

So sad, but I love how you remember her death.  I remember her as being somewhat shy and quiet in high school.
