1. Careless Whisper - Wham!

The music video shows the guilt felt by a man over an affair, and his acknowledgement that his partner was always going to find out. It was taped on location in Miami during June 1984. George Michael said that he wrote it "in his head" during work and that he recalls coming up with the sax riff whilst boarding a number 32 bus on the way home.

 
     

2. Separate Lives - Phil Collins

"Separate Lives" is a 1985 song recorded by Phil Collins & Marilyn Martin and featured on the soundtrack to the motion picture White Nights. It reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and #4 on the UK Singles Chart. The song also topped the adult contemporary chart in the U.S. for three weeks. Another great, if not sad, song about people chosing to live apart.

 
     

3. Crazy For You - Madonna

"Crazy for You" is a song by American recording artist Madonna, composed for the 1985 film Vision Quest about a young wrestler played by Matthew Modine. It was released on March 2, 1985 by Geffen Records. Madonna was still basically unknown at that time and this tune ushered in a new musical direction for Madonna and gained her much acclaim and recognition. 

 
     

4. St. Elmo's Fire (Man In Motion)

"St. Elmo's Fire (Man in Motion)" was recorded by John Parr. It hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 on 7 Sept 1985 and peaked at number six in the UK, Parr's home country. The song was originally written by David Foster and John Parr for the Canadian athlete Rick Hansen, who at the time was going around the world in his wheelchair to raise awareness for spinal cord injuries. His journey was called the "Man in Motion Tour," The song was later used as the theme for the film St. Elmo's Fire and became a number-one hit around the world eventually garnering a Grammy nomination and several other awards.

 
     

5. Raspberry Beret - Prince

"Raspberry Beret" is a song by Prince and The Revolution. It was the first US (and second UK) single from their 1985 album, Around the World in a Day. The song tells of a teenage romance and first sexual experience with a girl who wears the titular hat. The video for the song was Prince's first since his short-lived "ban" on music videos. The song quickly became a fan favorite. True to form, Prince videos are unavailable on YouTube since his death in April 2016 - enjoy the tribute band version. 

 
     

 6. We Built This City - Starship

"We Built This City" is a song written by Bernie Taupin, Martin Page, Dennis Lambert, and Peter Wolf, and originally recorded by Starship as its debut single on August 30, 1985. The lyrics were written by Bernie Taupin, best known for his longtime collaboration with Elton John. There have been quite a few 'shots' taken at this song including spoofs on The Simpsons. It was voted 'Worst Song Ever' by Blender magazine.

 
     

7. Can't Fight This Feeling - REO Speedwagon

"Can't Fight This Feeling" is a number-one ballad from REO Speedwagon about a man falling in love with a girl with whom he has been a friend for a long time, and hoping to spend a lifetime with her. The song first appeared on REO Speedwagon's 1984 album Wheels Are Turnin'. It was the group's second number-one hit on the U.S. charts (the first being 1981's "Keep on Loving You") and reached number sixteen in the UK.

 
     

8. Heaven - Bryan Adams

"Heaven" is a number-one ballad from Canadian rocker, Bryan Adams. This was one of his big singles from the mid-eighties.
