With no college interest and nothing more than a department store job on the side, I decided to join 11 others and try the Marine Corps. Turns out it was the best decision I ever made. I spent 20 years in the Corps; five and half of them as an enlisted Marine and the remainder in the Officer Corps. Ironically I served three years as a drill instructor and finally got the respect of our vice principle. We actually got to share some great stories in some of my return trips home.
While in the Marine Corps I actually got smart and realized I needed my education. With transfer after transfer I spent time at several colleges and universities and finished studies at the University of South Carolina and the University of Iowa.
My post military career has been focused in business and led me to Goodwill Industries which I absolutely love.
When I am not busy with work (more appropriately called fun) I enjoy riding my motorcycles. I teach riding skills for the State of Tennessee and Bumpus Harley Davidson of Memphis and love seeing folks learn how to develop new skills and learn safe riding skills. I have ridden all over the country and logged over 100,00 miles on two wheels. When I am not on two wheels I am in the boat enjoying the cooling waters countering the Memphis hot summers. I am no longer in Memphis. I finally decided to retire and move to Florida. Retirement didn’t last too long tho. I got tired of full-time retirement and decided to go into real estate. What better place to do it than the beautiful Emerald Coast area of NW Florida.

Since school was the best place to meet to decide where we going when we cut class, most of my school stories involve a guy named Retko and room called 207.

Oh let's see. Tommy Lasorda (he sure did like himself a lot), Lorrie Morgan, Dierks Bentley, Richard Petty, Kyle Petty, and Eric Close. The most interesting relationship I have is with Anfernee "Penny" Hardaway. A great former Memphis Tiger, Olympic Gold medalist and NBA great, Penny is a lifelong Memphian who is very dedicated to giving back. He is a Memphis Goodwill board member and a very humble, genuinely nice guy. Writing this, I am reminded of our school basketball team leading us to the state championship tournaments. Although we didn't win, we sure enjoyed watching them play hard.
