Freshman Year

• Class of '71 arrives on campus
• Discussion of social acceptance in Fraternities
• Trustees approve Blue Sky Curriculum
• 3/ Semesters
• 4 area exams
• ROTC to beome voluntary
• September 1968 implementation
• Seredipity Singers in Love Auditorium

• Extended "Rush" for those not accepted to Fraternities
• First Peace Vigil scheduled on campus.

• Maloy, Cook, Huckel, Moser, Kroll basketball team begins season.

• Grier Martin resigns
• Davidson students protest Draft in Charlotte

• Glen Yarborough plays but moves concert to afternoon because of Davidson/St. Johns NCAA game

• CRAP Committee calls for drinking on campus and open dorms

Sophomore Year

• Sam Spencer installed as new President
• Campus radio station switches to FM

• Drinking on campus approved
• Editorial noting "girls on campus might be a good thing"       
• Straw vote in Presidential election: Nixon 307/Humphrey 255/Wallace 24
• Paul Winter concert

• Chuck Jackson, Jerry Butler and Mitch Ryder play at homecoming
• Proposal for self scheduling exams
• Open dorms on weekends
• Snowstorm with lunch tray sledding down the hill into Fraternity Court
• Criticism of women's curfew on fraternity row: no women after midnight Sunday-Friday; and 1:30 on Saturday nights
• Mike Maloy on cover of Sports Illustrated

• Union cafeteria gets "C" rating

• South Carolina vs Davidson fight at Coliseum basketball game
• Faculty rules for open dorms
• College Bowl team selected and begins preparation

• Alcohol sales allowed in the Town of Davidson
• New York Rock Ensemble plays at Mid-Winters - snowstorm strands dates
• Walkout to protest mandatory Chapel
• Rumors of Lefty departure to Maryland

• Frontis Johnson retires as Faculty Dean
• Cats win Southern Conference Basketball
• Beat Villanova and lose to UNC (again)
• ROTC becomes voluntary

• College Bowl Team beats Colgate

• "Poco" plays at Spring Frolics

Junior Year

• Larry Brown comes and goes as basketball coach
• Terry Holland takes job as coach
• Slade/Kelley football team begins miracle season with Tangerine Bowl goal

• Faculty votes to suspend classes for Vietnam Protest Moratorium
• Sigma Chi disaffiliates with National after admitting Mike Maloy as a member
• Davidsonian reviews "Easy Rider"
• Rotary Connection plays for Homecoming

• Board agrees to Coed Swap
• Davidson football team beats ECU to go to Tangerine Bowl
• "Guess Who" plays in Chambers

• "Little Anthony" and "James Cotton Blues Band" play at Midwinters
• Football team loses to Toledo??? in Tangerine Bowl
• Ran Coble elected to be SGA president

• Senate advocates 24hr open dorms
• Basketball team beats #1 USC 68-62 in Columbia

• Wildcats win Southern Conference then loose to #3 St. Bonaventure and Bob Lanier in NCAA
• Julian Bond speaks on Campus

• "Chicago Transit Authority" plays at spring Frolics
• Dispute with Trusteees over open dorms
• "Woodstock" movie opens in Charlotte and is reviewed in The Davidsonian as an aspect of "Amerikan Kulture".

• "Campus Erupts in Protest over Cambodia and Kent State"
• ROTC Drills disrupted
• Tennis Team wins Southern conference, losing only one match

Senior Year

• Our class begins its senior year
• Articles state Fraternities hitting new low

• Kenny Rogers plays at Homecoming
• Dorms are officially open for Homecoming - dates not housed in Belk
• Some Fraternities adopt "open house" policy
• Self selection approved. Rush is canceled

• Phi Beta Kappa taps 21 seniors

• Self selection into eating clubs begins
• Queens to enter co-ed exchange program
• Davidson Peace Coalition holds 3 day fast for peace
• Approximately 230 members of the Class of '71 receive their diplomas
• Approximately 10 seniors to graduate during the summer
