Dale and I were together for most of the 4 years before he was killed in a car accident on May 30, 1985. We had met in Ms. Carter's English class sophomore year, where he slowly began to win my heart. After a couple of break-ups, on June, 16 1984, I pledged my love to him. We were engaged to be married. Young love can be rocky, but even so, our love for one another was strong. I am so thankful that he left me an abundance of the sweetest love letters and so many wonderful memories that I will always hold dear to my heart!
He was only 19 and never got to live out all of his dreams. We were planning a big wedding in order to invite so many of our Beaver classmates. We had asked John Thomas to sing "Truly" at our wedding, which John readily agreed to do. We sang our graduation song to the music of "Truly". Patterson and our friends and memories there were such a big part of who we were as a couple... It is impossible for me to remember high school or see the faces of any of my classmates without thinking of my memories with Dale. Not a day goes by that I don’t remember him for at least a few moments…as a part of him has always been with me. I look forward to being reunited with him and many of our other Beavers on the other side...
For our 20 year reunion I dedicated this song especially for Dale, as well as all of our other classmates that have gone on before us…
"There You'll Be"
from “Pearl Harbor” Soundtrack
performed by Faith Hill, written by Diane Warren
When I think back On these times
And the dreams We left behind
I'll be glad 'cause I was blessed to get
To have you in my life
When I look back
On these days
I'll look and see your face
You were right there for me
(Chorus)
In my dreams
I'll always see your soul
Above the sky In my heart
There will always be a place
For you for all my life
I'll keep a part
Of you with me
And everywhere I am
There you'll be
Well you showed me
How it feels
To feel the sky
Within my reach
And I always
Will remember all
The strength you
Gave to me
Your love made me
Make it through
Oh, I owe so much to you
You were right there for me
{Repeat chorus}
'Cause I always saw in you
My light, my strength
And I want to thank you
Now for all the ways
You were right there for me
You were right there for me
For always
