Roy was known by many at Stiver's. He was such a fun and popular guy...and he was kind; a real gentleman. He seemed to treat everyone he met with such respect. He graduated from Belmont, never joining us at the Patterson building. Nonetheless, many of us Beavers still kept in touch with him...

My fondest memory of Roy was a few days after Dale's funeral... He had been out of town and could not come to the funeral, but he came by to comfort me as soon as he heard the news. The shock of Dale's death and the funeral had started to wear off and I had planned on spending the day crying in my room alone while reading cards and letters and looking at photographs while listening to mine and Dale’s favorite love songs... I no longer needed to stay strong to make it through the events of the day and to face other people. I could finally just allow myself to mourn. I just couldn't hold it all in any longer...

Then my Mom told me that Roy was there to see me. I don't think I would have come out to visit with anyone else with my red eyes and face. I had planned on being all alone that day.

Roy stayed with me for about 3 hours. The first hour he just sat with me. We were that close. I just felt comforted by his presence and did not feel awkward about not speaking. How many friends come along in a lifetime that can truly mourn with you at your darkest hour? That was the kind of friend I had in Roy...

After a long time, and after many tears and some long embraces and sometimes just sitting with my head on his shoulder... we did eventually talk and even laugh for awhile before he left. (Only a true friend like Roy could have helped me laugh on that day!) He shared his dreams and plans for his future. He had so much to live for, but he would not be given the chance to chase all those dreams. I would not see my dear friend again before he was killed in a car accident just 6 months later… I am still so thankful to have known Roy and to have been able to call him my friend. He is deeply missed, even after all these years!
