The Bronco Bar and Grill!!!
Many a wild night in that dive!!!

Drank there at the tender age of nineteen.

The Bronco! Yes.

The best times were going to Xochimocho's (sp?) at midnight. The place was filthy, but the food tasted great. We need to go around the holidays.

Is the big tire still on Southfield? I haven't been back to MI in over 10 years.

11/05/08 11:54 AM #573

Dan Wallace

Yes, the tire is there and it had a big nail in it for awhile. It's on I -94 past the new bridge over Telegraph.

Xochi's is one place i really miss. You get a killer meal for under $10. Add more cash if you like margaritas. I loved the chips when they would still be sizzling in their bath of greasy goodness!!!

Plan on going to Xochi's for dinner. I'll bring my bullet proof vest.

Do you remember having to stop for gas near Clark Park at around 2am? I swear, I pumped like a $1.87 - just enough to get home and the hell out of the area! I felt like I had a bullseye on the back of my head, while I was pumping.

Here's a funny story. Once when I was in England my sister Tricia and her friend came to visit. We were riding the tube into London and chatting with each other. Well this younger guy was sitting across from us as well as an older woman, and the guy says to us "I couldn't help but overhear you. Are you ladies from America?" We told him yes we are from Michigan etc. He says to us "Oh, I spent time in Ann Arbor. I noticed something about American woman, they are either really, really gorgeous or they are really, really ugly and dumpy!" My sister, her friend and I all smiled at each other and before anyone could say anything else, my sister says, loud enough for everyone to hear, "Oh yeah? And which one are we?!" This guy turned a million shades of red! The old woman next to him never said anything but she had the biggest smile on her face! Major Burn!

Wow...I just left from the Clark/Veron area...I love Detroit. It's funny I have worked in many parts of Detroit, & how each part view the other as bad. I actually had a boss that lived like in the Evergreen/McNichlos area...& she refers to SW & the Eastside as "Over there in Dolly Dagger". We use to keep each other in stitches...I always referred to the white needy race as "trailer white trash" or "kin of kin" & she would yell at me for my interracism...I would reply it takes one to know one.

SW I have come to know for fact has the highest rate of stolen cars, both found there & taken from the area. Also still a high number of gang activity. My favorite gas station is on the corner of Vernon & West Grand Blvd, they always have good cigarette deals ;)

Why didn't we fill up in Little Saigon or Del Ray like we usually did?????

I would definitely be down for Mexican town.

So Hooker tells me he sees Brian George on the streets (after graduation) and they exchange words. A cop goes by and sees the commotion. He ends up arresting Brian for being a jerk and hooker watches while the cop cuffs and stuffs Brian into his patrol car. At least that the way you told me.

11/05/08 02:20 PM #578

Dan Wallace

I used to refer to the white trash as "those people who live near the creek"

11/05/08 02:25 PM #579

April Passen (Ochman)

Well sometimes I refer to them as Family...ROFL But no I seriously am the black sheep of the family. My mother tired so hard w/all us girls...one is bipolar (has been for as long as memory services me), the other a workolcohol/alcoholic violent human being. The bipolar one is either mochying off someone or homeless.

Funny thing is my older sister is moving on up, she went from the Jefferson homeless...from Rouge to Wyadotte...to this last decade hanging in Oakland County all the time. You'd think that be a better class of homelessness, but in 2002 the bitch got hooked on Crack. I tell ya, the rich homeless ain't all it's cracked up to be....LOL

So Dan should I take it Robert & Brian didn't get along? I thought in Elementary they did? So who did Brian hang out w? Sometimes my finger go faster then my mind...confuse brain for brian.

11/05/08 02:34 PM #582

Dan Wallace

I don't recall who Brian hung around with. I just know it wasn't Hooker.

I could see a personality clash there. Don't know why I was shocked by it. So did you guys ever hang out at Blondie's, Token or Snuggles?

11/05/08 02:42 PM #584

Dan Wallace

When you live outside of SE Michigan and you say you're from Detroit people give interesting responses...

You talk funny!
did you live by 8 Mile?
and you never got shot?
So, you're Canadian?
What's a pop???? (it's soda everywhere else in the country)
Why did you move??? (dumbest question)
Great Mayor!

11/05/08 02:43 PM #585

Robert Hooker

I'm sorry, but Detroit's a dump. It's a dirty, corrupt city, and as long as the city council's in place, it will stay that way.

I do enjoy watching Detroit's local news - Pittsburgh's not as exciting.

11/05/08 02:45 PM #586

Robert Hooker

Exactly.

Did you live near 8 Mile? Ignorant question
Do you know Kid Rock or Eminem? Stupid question
Is Detroit as dangerous as everyone says it is? Yes
Why do you still root for the Lions? Not sure

11/05/08 02:48 PM #587

April Passen (Ochman)

Yes it is all of those thing Robert...but that is what makes it so much fun, interesting & culturally retarded. The racism w/in the city is so mind blogging. Mexicans hating the blacks, blacks hating the mexicans...but they all become united to hate us whites. I just love to see people build off of hate...LOL

But honestly my hubby hates Detroit & I just can't explain but I do love it.

11/05/08 02:51 PM #588

April Passen (Ochman)

It's my purverse sense of need to feel better about myself, or needed...or entertained...or freak desire to put myself into dangerous situations.

11/05/08 02:55 PM #589

April Passen (Ochman)

Now I could never do the whole surival or fear factor thing...eat bugs, mud, or even seafood for that matter, play w/scorpions, spiders. I get my thrills from human indangerment...ROFL

It's that time to play school bus...but funny thing..when I worked in Oakland County w/rich hungry girls...they all claim to know Eminem & Kid Rock...Hungry Whores...Type soon.

In high school, me and Breck would drive through the worst/most dangerous parts of Detroit for fun. We would drive through the GHETTO at 2am and yell #### out the window. What were we thinking?

A few years later, me and Wallace were approached by a prostitute on West Grand Boulevard. That's hot!

Back in the 80's my cousin Randy was in town for a job interview and I had to do a lot of convincing that it was safe for us to go downtown for dinner at Pizza Popolis. Well he finally gave in after I swore it was safe and nothing could possibly happen to us. Well dinner went well but afterward we were in that mall area where you can get on the people mover and someone shouts out Hey He's got a gun!!. People were running all over trying to duck for cover. These two big black guys were in a fist fight on the escalator. We did not hang around to find out how it ended. My cousin was so mad at me! I thought it was cool.

In the last half of our senior year, I started dating this guy from Detroit. He lived on Cas Grain right off of Livernois Ave. It was a bit rough but I was never at his house long enough to find out for sure. I can't believe my mom let me drive to his house, sometimes late at night.
He was gorgeous and dumb as a brick. He was also in the Air Force and home on leave when I met him. He stood me up for the prom and I ended up not going. Jerk.

Was he from AHS?

11/05/08 03:26 PM #594

My date? No, he was older - he went to Eastern. Gump was Ken Shirley - dated off and on for 2 years or so. Man, I was mad at him a lot!
