Gwen Norman (Martin)

5 th Grade-- Mrs. Davies class at Bedford. Hmm Our play was a Christmas Carol I was Mrs. Cratchit, Jeff Miller was Mr. Cratchit, Dolores Ramirez was Tiny Tim. The other 5th grade class came and watched us an laughed their asses off at us. My first CD's were Bon Jovi Slippery When Wet and Madonna True Blue; I got them in 10 th grade for Christmas. Memories of Hooker...When he worked at Farmer Jack and I worked at Pizza King (briefly) he would call and give a fake name with his order.

April- I remember Mrs. Diller. Didn't she end up in the nut house because of Connie Deberly(not sure of the spelling? I just remember her being led out of the Jr. High by the Asst. Principal and she never returned.....

April Passen (Ochman)

Shannon, that would not have surprised me...Connie would of had that affect on her, but Ms. Diller was my 5th grade teacher, don't remember her at OW Best, not that I was all that attentive come jr. high. I remember back in elementary school you & me had brief moments of almost hanging out...I think we had same friends, it might of been 3rd grade, when me & Diane Meggison were BF's only cuz there was like only 9 3rd graders in our split class, she didn't have many to choose from...ROFL Lilliana was in Ms. Train's class w/Kellie Thornton, so we kinda spilt BF's (Kellie lived by me, Lil lived by Diane, but Diane & Kellie didn't like each other).

Now I really thought that Bobbie Cherconian (however you spell it) was going to put Ms. Austin in the looney bin.

Gwen, Let me guess...Robert would call there asking for Mike Hunt? I see him doing that.

Cara, I loved Kmart...this love continued until they filed banrupcy & stopped stocking their shelves. Atari was the bomb. My butt owned one spent all my time on it, would then walk to Kmart & play theirs. I remember I cut open my hand on Tammy Bondy's attic window (still have the scar), had my hand wrapped in a wet wash cloth to stop the bleeding & her mom said..."hey were going to Kmart's, April you want me to take you home?" I opted to go to the Kmart w/bloody hand, playing Atari w/the wash cloth dripping blood & water.

I believe Miss Diller is still in the system and works at Polk. If not at Polk then she is at one of the schools. By the way, what was with Connie Demerly? When did she leave/move away?

Gwen Norman (Martin)

Tara,

I remember Connie so she made it to O.W. I remember Ms. Diller too.

Since someone brought up O.W., how many people remember the 7th grade social studies teacher that smelt to high heaven and how many people remember sitting through Plants class?? Ms. Gappy taught it. I remember everyone getting pissed because she would give me hall passes and not the others. Ms. Gappy also busted me "smoking in the girls room" in high school and didn't get me suspended.

April,

The only reason I remember that about Rob is because...One day I had gotten in trouble for a couple of prank orders, when he called I didn't recognize his voice and didn't place his order :-(

Tara, Connie was one of those there one day gone the next, then back again. I think she was back & forth w/different family members, I know at one point she lived w/her aunt I think. Not sure if she had one of those dysfunctional families, or was part of the JV system? We all at one point feared the hell out of the damn girl, when in reality, I bet she just wanted to be excepted, loved & fit in...so she tired too w/fear.

Ms. Diller w/her damn frog eyes...she was kinda spooky looking, but so soft spoken & avoided conflict at all cost. I remember needing to have your assignment done to have recess, so if I wasn't done I would turn in an already graded paper, she'd look right at it & say nothing. Man I was a con-artist for some recess.

Hey, Dan, Bill, & Robert you've all been rather quiet these last few weeks.

Cara Onkalo (Fitzpatrick)

Remember Ms. Santoro and her candy closet? Didn't she end up getting in big trouble in 9th grade for selling candy?

The things I remember most about O.W. time -- parachute pants and the matching zipper shirt!! And walking around the neighborhood carrying a gigantic radio that would be a monster today! I thought the double tape deck was the coolest thing ever. You could copy each other's tapes!

April-- We didn't get cable until I was in 12th grade so I remember spending hours at Kmart watching the Thriller video and the making of Thriller over and over when it first came out. They played it all day long! It stuck with me too because my old company had a Thriller dance off last year and I won!

Tracey Ulrich (Dawson)

Cara, your a hoot! Thriller is a classic.
April I bet you are the reason the other two 5th grades had a year-end roller skating party and we (Olkowski) went to Toronto. Our class complained because we wanted to go skating too. Can you imagine passing up Toronto for skating??? Well, yes, I guess YOU can....As a kid I mean. :)

10/28/08 02:45 PM #155

April Passen (Ochman)

Cara...I had hot pink parachute outfit! =) And as for cable everyone in the free world had it available except DH until 1984 (Ecrose & Rouge had it before us). Kids today would freak out if they had to live like we did! And honestly I love that we had to get out and be adventurous. Back then we only feared strangers, but we lived in a city that everyone knew everyone, or so we thought. I am actually going crazy trying to figure out who you are Cara? Small city & I just can't place you.

Tracey...you've been watchin' too much Boston Legal...your a hoot...ROFL Last nights was good. As for the wanting to go skating over Toronto...grass is always greener on the other side...I was jealous of your trip! I could go skating every weekend, but to stay the night w/the whole class, WOW...Not that it was worth having Mr. O as a teacher...I could not stand that man...Loved his brother, our princple...but not him. I later had him in like 8th grade for science, & he wasn't so bad...he took over for Mr. Potter. I loved Mr. Potter he was like super cool! I actually did great in his class for awhile...& I never was a science fan, not then at least. Mr. Potter you to tell me & Tricia Swecko that we looked like his neighbor's kids...gave us nicknames & all. I don't think I ever could of past as Tricia sister, that might be cuz all of her sister's looked like her beyond just her twin.

Oh I was also not in the class of the teacher who took their class home w/them. Wow...I was jealous of that too. Who was she & what grade? I'm thinking it was 5 or 6th?

Shannon Krych (Hofer)

Do any of you guys remember the girl who would dress like Michael Jackson and do all his dance moves at the school dances? That use to kill me...

10/28/08 04:30 PM #158

Tracey Ulrich (Dawson)

Whatever happened to Cindy Hurst?

10/28/08 05:23 PM #159

Cara Onkalo (Fitzpatrick)

April, just don't pull out the yearbooks to figure out who I am - talk about having bad 80's hair!! It was a foot tall, but a tornado could have ripped through and it wouldn't have moved!! It was the magical creation of Dippity-Do and Stiff Stuff!

Hey Shannon, remember volleyball in 9th grade? I had the biggest crush on Darryl Romine - he kept our stats. He had that Don Johnson, pink shirt and white pants, thing going on.

10/28/08 05:54 PM #160

Shannon Krych (Hofer)

Do I remember 9th grade Volleyball??? Hell, that was how I met Brian Paynter. We dated for 7 years, if you can believe that crap.

10/28/08 06:06 PM #161

Cara Onkalo (Fitzpatrick)

You met him in 9th grade?? Man, that's a mighty long time!

10/28/08 06:38 PM #162

Shannon Krych (Hofer)

yes it was, boy I thought I knew everything back then... found out at the age of 23 that I didn't know anything... :)

10/28/08 06:44 PM #163

Cara Onkalo (Fitzpatrick)

I know! Ditto!!

10/28/08 08:31 PM #164

April Passen (Ochman)

Cara...Well I won't be pulling out any yearbooks, I lost them all in a basement flood. And please name me one female who did not have 3 feet hair in the 80's, besides me in the 9th pix when I burnt my hair off by dying & getting a perm w/in 24 hours. I looked like I tried to dry my hair w/the stove. But seriously...do you remember me?

Tracy...Oh geeze...I need to be nice..Cindy Hurst & I, I thought were BF's until Nov 2000. Then I learned differently. In fact...I address her in email form. Worst mistakes I made were Cindy induced! Oh...I swore I'd be nice.

Shannon 7 years of commitment in your youth...be proud, you missed out on sluthoodship that way...ROFL

Gwen Norman (Martin)

I remember Cindy from hmm 7th grade. She and I hung out for a little while and April your right because thats why I ditched first period a few times. Kelly Sharp (class of 86) was the reason I had 13 1/2 days in my first period in 10th grade. As for Connie--I don't remember her being mean just, April I will sound like you for a minute, just needing someone, anyone to be nice to her. Oh! I did not learn how to do big hair until my later years---besides my parents would have had several youngins if I tried to walk out of the house with it that high (she probably would have brushed it for me :-) Now someone tell me that man's name that stunk to high heaven it's killing me---Only teacher I could not con he put me in the hallway for not behaving.

Mr. Gellner?

10/29/08 08:16 AM #167

Tracey Ulrich (Dawson)

April, got your note. I understand. Too bad.

10/29/08 09:34 AM #168

Robert Hooker

Yes. We called him Mr Smellner.

Cara Onkalo (Fitzpatrick)

April, I can't place you either but I recognized your name right away, so we must have had some classes together. I went to Madison and then Pardee thru 5th grade, private church school in Dearborn 6th thru 8th, and then I was back at Best for 9th grade. I wish I would've been at Best the whole time, but my parents wanted me under the influence of the church! Good thing they didn't want me bussing into Detroit to go to Lutheran West High. I really wanted to be back with all the locals. I was really happy that my BF from 4th grade, Lisa Rosin, remembered me when I got back! Michele Thompson became my BF in 9th too.

Tracey, were you in Mrs. Browning's 4th grade class? She was so awesome. She really got me into reading and would bring books to class for me. I've been reading like a maniac ever since the 4th grade.
