Sing Robert Sing.

Tara...Sara a Lawyer? Man I betcha she is like something out of Boston Legal! I remember her walking around a party asking "What does butter your muffin mean?" I could not stop laughing long enough to answer her. She crossed over to the wrong side of the tracks for awhile there. I actually stayed the night at her house in Dearborn. She dated Richard Haskill while I was dating Marc...& we all know Marc had every other month parties. Of all the regrets I might have...Marc was not one of them...he threw a mean party...and always had a car...even before he was 16. I didn't need to date the older guys...ROFL

Oh I got a song for you Robert...Remember "You ain't worth the salt in my tears"...one hit wonder. I love that song...looked for it for years & no one knew what I was talking about...not even Dearborn Music. Thank gosh for the internet...I thought I was going crazy.

Tonight for Ice Skating I found a new cool to communicate. AIM's open chat room. Wow it would of been fun w/the right people...hint you'se from here.

Hello April,
My girls use AIM and absolutely love it. The only problem is that if you guys stop posting here, then what will I do for my evening 'funny'?! :o)

April Passen (Ochman)

Tonya,
Oh never replace here! Anymore it seems no one is on at the same time anyways for AIM to work. Could you imagine how cool it is to be a kid today? Where they suffer in the aspect of not having as much freedom of travel as we did (like walking to KMart at age 9) they have all this great connection setup. I betcha it beats prank phone calling...lol

OMG, April, I remember walking to Kmart all the time! They had slurpees and it was closer than 7-11. I went practically every day. And we had Atari. It doesn't get cooler than that! :) I still have my Atari too.

Tracey, I do remember you singing at the top of your lungs at McDonalds. I forgot that until now! That was so funny. I remember losing my voice for a couple of days after that concert. And that candy drawer - it made me obese in middle school and my mom took it away and put me on this awful green bean and vinegar diet! It worked, but I can't eat green beans to this day. Mike Baker from Edsel Ford - talk about a flash back. He was my first real boyfriend. I remember he drove us to school almost every day and waiting for you guys every morning listening to Whitney Houston, How Will I Know. I played that song so much I can't stand to hear it now! And, I remember we played Whip It by Devo nonstop and danced around Cathy's room for hours.

Those were the good old days!

Kathy Robertson and U2
Cathy Webb and Duran Duran
over and over and over and over.......
It took me until after college to be able to listen to those groups and enjoy them again. Now, however, when I here them I have fond memories. I think the 1980's was the era of overplaying top 10's on the radio.
I still sing at the top of my lungs but not usually in public. I was singing Clapton at school the other day. My instructor started it....

We have XM radio. The 70's station and Top Tracks (classic rock) are my favorites. The 70's plays everything from disco to rock to folk rock etc. What a great era, so diverse. Funny enough, I can only listen to the 80's station for so long before I change it. Another great station is Bluesville for the real deal. I also like Starbucks Cafe for when you want something on but don't want to listen (or sing along). I like to hear music I havn't heard before and this station delivers. I just noticed that there is an AC/DC station...Gee Rob, have you got XM?

I still can't listen to Hungry Like the Wolf and Rio, or anything by Culture Club, I just can't do it! I have to turn off the 80's station too. It's great for 10 minutes and then it has to go. I still listen to everything by Def Leppard and Bon Jovi, but they're classics!

Being the last of seven kids, most of my older siblings were in high school during the 70's, and my oldest sister, Susan (AHS'77)wasan avid record (yes record)collector. She had everything. Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Heart, Beatles, Stones, The Who, America, Crosby,Stills n Nash, Cat Stevens and then also, Olivia Newton John, Captain and Tenille, Hellen Ready, Queen, Jackson 5, Steely Dan, Santana, Pink Floyd, Supertramp, Stykes, to name a few. Then she had a stack of 45's with all these singles on them. My sister Tricia (AHS'86)and I used to sit in our basement and listen to them for hours or pretend our Barbies were singing. We had a raised platform storage area down there and we cleared it off and made it our stage. We held performances there all the time. Funny, I can remember being fairly young and driving around with Susan in her Mustang. It had an 8 track player! Needless to say, I had a tremendous exposure to a lot of great music. My parents are from the 40's Big Band era so I like that stuff too. Then of course there is the 80's. Some good stuff there too. Billy Joel was/is a favorite also. Forgot to include him.

Captain and Tenille! I still have that album, how funny. I kept all my LP's and 45's.

Being an only child, I was always jealous of all those brothers and sisters that you have!!

The Bay City Rollers were great...I had that 8-track...It was cool when a song was really long and halfway thru it would click click to the the next track.

S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y NIGHT.

I'm really sorry I didn't make to the reunion. This is the best forum I have ever read. I wish I could keep up.

I couldn't live w/ out music.

My earliest memory was living on the farm (yes, I was born on a farm) and listening to 'behind closed doors' by Charlie Pride and 'the most beautiful girl' by Charlie Rich. I still love these songs. First 8-tracks were The Village People and The Bee Gees, around 1978 or 1979. I would plug in the headphones and sing to 'in the navy'. Then it happened...

The last day of 4th grade: Ron Zain, Frank Plonka, and Tony Yamine gave me a tape of 'we sold our soul for rock and roll' by Black Sabbath. I never went back.

First albums were 'back in black' and 'foreigner 4'.

Then, WRIF played 'i don't know' by Ozzy in 1981. I picked up the tennis racket in my bedroom and played the hell out of Randy Rhodes' opening riff. I am arguably the greatest air guitar player District 7 has ever produced.

I used to listen to the Ann Arbor station (WIQB?) at 11pm each night on my clock radio and listen to 30 minutes of Van Halen. I was 11 or 12 years old, and just could not believe how great each song was. Van Halen rules!

A couple of years later, I met my heavy metal soul mate...Breck Nowlin. More to come...

We had the 45 of the Village People with YMCA on one side and In The Navy on the flip! How funny. The 8 track tape I remember most was Billy Joel-The Stranger. I hadn't remembered it making the click-click change over noise until Michelle mentioned it but she's right it would change, click, and continue on in the middle of the song Italian Restaurant. Thanks to my brother Matt (AHS'75)I became a fan of Harry Chapin. Matt had gone to his concert, don't know what year, and came home with a yellow t-shirt that said "Harry,It Sucks" referencing the song Thirty-Thousand Pounds of Bananas. Does anyone else know what I'm talking about? Any Chapin fans? I remember when Harry died in a car accident in 1981. We heard the news on the radio while on vacation. Too sad. The other great influence Matt had on me was The Blues Brothers. There isn't a bad song in that movie.

The Blues Brothers..You know Dan and Robert have a sort of Jake and Elwood quality about them....
I just watched a You-Tube clip. Man what great music. Aretha Franklin, James Brown, Ray Charles, Cab Calloway and of course those white boys blues, Jim Belushi and Dan Aykroyd. Orange Whip anyone??

The only movie in my opinion to rival The Blues Brothers for music is Forrest Gump oh, and maybe This is Spinal Tap.

My first album was Shawn Cassidy, then Kiss, then Grease soundtrack. Followed up by urban cowboy soundtrack, & sneaking listening to my sister's Led Zepplin. I actually only bought 1 Zepplin tape, I always said there was no use to it give it 5 minutes & something Zepplin would be on WRIF or WLLZ. Anyone remember W4 when it was rock?

Welcome Shannon, don't worry about catching up, just start off...we have no problem exploring already mentioned areas of memories.

Just thinking back...My 1st female idol was Olivia Newton-John, then followed up about 5 years or so by Madonna. Wow think of the the two resemble...Olivia in her spandex w/the hair, & Madonna w/her leggin' & hair. And strangely enough I usually don't have an attraction to blondes, male or female. Sorry just a psycho-analytical analysis on myself.

What the hell is going on?

I was getting ready to talk about the metal years w/ Breck, Steve Fry, and Steve Flohr's influence, but it's going to have to wait. I need to see some more action on the 'board' before I move on past 1981...

1987 involves roadkill.

10/27/08 08:04 AM #138

Shannon Krych (Hofer)

Robert-

Are you talking about Roadkill the band or the furry creatures that test our driving skills???

10/27/08 08:12 AM #139

Robert Hooker

I am definitely talking about the animals that lost the battle against a 2000 lb car, going 60 mph. I want to share more stories, but don't think this group has earned the right to hear them.

I'm working and listening to Kashmir by Zeppelin - one of the three greatest rock songs of all time!

Shannon...

You won't believe me, but I was thinking about you on Saturday. We had friends at the house and they were talking about their 8-year old daughter who doesn't know how to tie her shoes, yet. I was thinking about how I would ask you to tie mine in Ms Shemanski's kindergarten class. I'm pretty sure you sat w/ Gary Stover. He ate glue.

10/27/08 08:21 AM #141

Shannon Krych (Hofer)

That is too funny. Gary did love him some glue!! I remember getting sent to the office because I pushed some kid into the drinking fountain. He wouldn't get off one of the toys so I offered him a ride...LOL God I hope that wasn't you as well...LOL

Robert...

Have you heard that ACDC is coming out with a new album after all this time? Crazy!

10/27/08 05:40 PM #143

April Passen (Ochman)

Wow, way to funny..this weekend I was thinking about Kindergarten. I thought my teacher's name was Ms. Parcinski? My son is in Kindergarten & I was trying to think back, and honestly...this is the most unrememberable year I had in school. The teacher had no real impression on me. I barely remember what she looked like. I was in the PM class, only remember Debbie Smith, & some girl named Alexandra in the class.
Now that I think about it I think there was 2 kindergarten teachers? And Ms Shemanski was the nice one. I seriously remember all teacher's but Kn, & 3rd grade. But now I do remember loving Ms. Ross, & being so damn jealous of Bill Flohr for being teacher's pet. That is when my crush on him was truly faded, & moved on to Richard Haskill, he had no chance of being teacher's pet now did he! Although he could run faster then I in gym. I so could run fast in the short distances, but screw running the whole track...I was always one of the last. I think I already mentioned this hangup, but hey it's a hangup. It's kinda a metaphor for my life, I do good in short term, and long term results I fail or give up. Wow just broke off into psycho therapy again.

Robert...We haven't been able to meet up like we use too..everyday real life is catching up w/us? I don't know about you but October tends to be a lot excepted out of ya as a parents...costume's, already thing about Christmas shoppping, holiday planning...Man life sucks as an adult...living in the moment is just that, a moment. Then ya realize what seems like yesterday was last month. Is time flying out of control for everyone, or just me? I swear them playing w/daylight savings time has something to do w/it. And why bother buying products that change the time for ya, when they go & change when they do it. Sorry just had to vent.

Oh Saturday I worked at a Haunted House for my daughter's Ice skating fundraiser...it was so cool. I was the scream guy...I got kicked by a kid, pushed in the face by my paperboy, elbowed in the breast by an grandpa, to then turn around & walk into a wall after chasing a group of kids down a hall. I looked bruised & abused, but I had a blast!!! I was screaming to my paperboy (who did not know who I was)...WHERE MY PAPER!!! GIVE ME MY PAPER!!! I felt like the little kid from "Better off dead" the John Cusack...I want my two dollars!!! Ok I'm done w/my moment!

April Passen (Ochman)

I never noticed...our we going chronological order of our stories Robert? Cuz I think we do best scrolling all over the place? So tell me about 1981...that would of been end of 5th begining of 6th grade....Ms. Diller & Ms. Austin for me...My I hate Ozzy years...he's cruel to animals. Oh it's the Ernie Nagy years, flag football, & Duke's of Hazzard. Me & Tammy Bondy BF's, & Shelly & Lee Filicks arch enemy years....Oh you got me started...now your turn...
