That's funny!!!

I was so shocked to find out that there was no Devil's Night when I moved away. People in San Diego looked at me like I was from Mars when I asked about it. Then I had to keep explaining that the entire Detroit area is not the ghetto!

Miss Diller retired last year?! She must have been at least 110 years old.

Busy day, and hope to share a few stories in the next couple of days. Happy Devil's Night!

Too funny.

I was getting ready to explain the same thing about Pittsburgh. I've mentioned Devil's Night over the years, and people look at me like I'm a satanist...then, I tell them I'm from Detroit. They usually respond w/ 'ahhhhh, now I understand'.

Then I egg them!

Now as for egging, I did my share, but I prefered to be an observer verse actually throwing...I was a pretend bad ass, I didn't really like to do mean things...until I was dared or called chicken...then all common sense was gone! Usually the stunts were more self humilation then harmful, like moony, flashing or sticking my face into a cake! I have peed in a drive thru at the drive through on Telegraph & Vanborn, I think it was a hardee's then? Now it's a burger king.

Now as for your Ms. Muir...I had Ms. Riggie the Piggie for 1st grade & she was very evil too. And strangly enough, my daughter's only teacher she didn't like was 1st grade. I think it might be a requirement? Ms. Riggie had been known to beat the kids, I personally have a knot on my head from her red, white & blue eagel pen that was about 3 inches around.

As for Devil's Night...it is a Detroit only thing! Dating back to the 60's right around the time of the riots, but they burned down houses verse egging. I remember in like 2nd grade my sister had to take me out w/her, & she had the soap, TP, glue & eggs. I remember the only thing I wanted to do was glue the school doors shut, so we tired, but elmer's wasn't strong enough.

Remember trick or treating until like 11 at night? After all the houses turned out there lights, you'd hit the businesses on Vanborn & Pelham. Now my city is from 5-8, but it seems like everyone is done by 7pm...this poor kids, thank gosh I got 3, at least there's more candy that way!

Oh here's a memory...remember when in 5th grade the merry-a-go-round was broken & it became the coolest thing on the playground now that it was dangerous! We finally got kicked off it & it they fixed it like after a month or two of kids getting stuck underneath it. I actually think it took someone breaking there leg to do so?

I remember Tom Bigelow riding his bike home from Redskins' football practice, while we were trick or treatin'. I couldn't understand why he wasn't walking w/ the rest of us w/ a bag in his hand.

I thought that was the coolest thing ever! He was like a blond-haired Fonz.

True Story: Jackie Swayze broke her leg under that merry-go-around. It was probably around '80 or '81.

Gotta go...

See you tomorrow.

I thought that there was someone who had broke there leg! Tom never impressed me...I ain't much for my men to be blonde. Although later in my hot pants moment I did like long hair!

Oh now heres a funny true story...I driving down Pelham see this fine long hair limo driver pumping gas & the Mobil... & I yell "oh baby, your hot"...he turned around & he was a she...needless to say I turned red & sped away!

Cara,
Yes, I was in Mrs. Kish's class with you. She was a nice teacher. I was at the kitchen sink today and the name of that principal hit me, Mr. Casper. He was the principal at Madison. I think he was the one who used to either whistle, sing or hum. Tracey, you will remember.
Robert, believe it or not Miss Diller looked the same. My son went to Polk when he was three for speech and I saw her name on her class door and peeked in and there she was. I have a friend that teaches in D7 and she told me she retired. Thanks so much for mentioning White Cloud, I thought I was in the clear until Memorial Day. I will be heading up next weekend, my cousin has had a back and forth bout with some type of cancer in her legs, her insurance will not cover it this time, I have no idea why. Any how they are having a benefit for her and Adrina and I will drive up and attend. We will probably beat the crap out of each other for the whole 200 miles, it is a tradition. When we were little, we went up almost every weekend, we were glad when we were finally old enough to stay home. We thought Rite Aid was a cool store, it was the only one we ever knew. Now they are on every corner. Did anyone ever drag you into that store in Fremont called Big Wheel. It is still there I think.
Keep the stories coming, my husband asked who I was always talking to on here, I tell him never mind. Have a safe Halloween everybody!

About the egging & drinking...Robert you said you were coming up for the Holidays? Which one, & what date? I want to be sure to keep my schedule open! And I don't know about the rest of you who are comin' on this drinking, egging binge...but the damn holiday plans are already starting...so I need a time frame at least that we our looking at?

And will Dan be visiting family about the same time?

We may be in during the week of Christmas, and not sure about Thanksgiving. I'll let you know, and we'll try to get a few of us together.

Do you remember Count Scary? Mike Nieport loved this guy. I never understood the humor (?).

If anyone is ever passing through the northern VA/DC area, let me know!!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

Now come on Robert...Count Scary...I was totally the Gohl person...he was such the hippy w/those cool stupid movies! Could you imagine the kids today watching the crap we had to scare us? They would laugh their ass off at us. There were some classics such as Halloween, Friday the 13th, & the Nightmares...but think to our first scarey The Omen, all the bad black & white, Salem's Lot...too funny what we had as starter scares.

10/31/08 12:06 PM #209

April Passen (Ochman)

Oh I almost forgot the other Reagan...The exorcist! I am ashamed to omit it, but my first fear came w/Salem's Lot. I don't know why but Hutch playing a more serious role, was scarey!!!

This rant is dedicated to Halloween...
The Twilight Zone, Dracula, Alfred Hitchcock...now he was the orginal replaced by Stephen King!

My all time favorite will always be any Dracula...the virginal white gown female being stalled by the dark vampire...suck the romantic rape dream! The bad boy coming to show you his love. Seriously this right here is why most woman feel so guilty when they do get raped...it was the first violent crime that was almost fanasty like...but the fanasty does not make rape ok by any means!!! Then came Wesley to screw up the fanasty with Blade, which is a cool movie, but the romance is not there!

I don't like scary movies. I think it has something to do w/ the cabin story (posted earlier). My dad loved Sir Graves Ghastly and The Ghoul. We used to watch the weak-ass movies each Saturday on Creature Feature, then tune in to Bill Kennedy at the Movies each Sunday. I would fall asleep each time.

I would watch 'Ultra Man' every day in the summer on Channel 20. I'd get pumped up watching Johnnie Sokko before the big D7 baseball games.

The Shleestaks (sp?) would scare the #### out of me every Saturday on Land of the Lost. I would have nightmares about them and KISS showing up in my room each night - not cool!

Busy day at work, but am rocking out to Social Distortion (Live at The Roxy). This is a 'top 10' album. Yes, album.

Don't have it? Go buy it.

I just have to say that I post these stupid messages for my own entertainment. I make myself laugh.

I really am an idiot, ain't I?

No No No OMG!! Your not alone Robert, Bill Kennedy at the Movies!!!! I watched that too! And Land of the Lost used to scare me too. Along with the intro to Planet of the Apes. My siblings loved The Ghoul! I have not thought of these things for ages. As for vampires, I lived three doors down from Nowlin Cemetary and had three very ruthless older brothers. I swear I was so afraid of vampires that I literally slept with the bed covers around my neck every night until I was a TEENAGER!

I loved Creature Feature!! I still have the board game. The very first scary movie I ever saw was Night of the Living Dead. I snuck downstairs to watch it after my parents went to sleep and I had nightmares of dead zombies coming to get me for a week! The next scary movie I remember was Satan's Cheerleaders. I forget what channel it was but one of them played scary movies every Fri. or Sat. night. That started my love of horror movies! I just heard Monster Mash - bring on Halloween!!

I remember watching Batman & Robin every day and being glued to my seat because it always ended in a cliffhanger!

10/31/08 01:12 PM #216

Cara Onkalo (Fitzpatrick)

Tracey, speaking of Nowlin Cemetary... My cousin and I snuck in there at dusk once and were running around and accidentally knocked a tombstone over! We ran out of there so fast! I was convinced that a ghost was going to come after us and kill us. In fact, I don't remember ever going near that place again.

Planet of Apes freaked me out. I still can't watch them.

Penny from Lost in Space was hot.

Friday the Thirteenth was really the only horror movie I've seen because I DO NOT enjoy being scared. I have a mind like a cement vault, once something goes in nothing comes back out. After seeing it I would slam every door against the wall if it was half open and could not go into a bathroom with a shower curtain pulled closed. There was that seen at the camp where the two kids were gettin it on and Jason is hiding under the bed. He ends up stabbing them both with this giant spear. Nasty.

Just returned from Kindergarten Halloween Pardee, what fun. My youngest (in pre-school) insisted on being a part of it w/his big brother. This one class a teacher was holding a real live snake, my baby (4) was all into refusing to leave, wanting to hold it, me & the oldest were out soon as we seen it. NOT A SNAKE FAN!

Now as for horror flicks...I was really into them. Trying to be cool w/the older sisters. My love for them continued forever, the more real the better! But after loosing my mom, horror flicks I can't do anymore. Now I avoid the whole death stuff, when before I thrived on it! To real for me now, & now Dad gone too...It probably won't come back.

Now to be honest...not much has scared me, but that stupid Blair Witch Project...it got to me...I bought it hook, line & sinker! To find out the day after I seen it that everyone in the world knew it wasn't real! I'm a dummy.

And Robert if you haven't noticed...those of us who type here often...all enjoy there own rants as much as you enjoy yours. It's what makes this place great...it's like a dysfunctional public diary!
