Well, I spoke with Mary Laundroche (mlaundroche@ci.dearborn.mi.us) - Director of Public Information for Dearborn. She gave me the following advanced information (as the formal published release will not be until around mid-June, but Rick Springfield will be the headliner for Saturday. See below and enjoy!
=========================================================
Hello:

The headline entertainment on Saturday night is Rick Springfield.

Sunday night is likely to be local favorite 50 Amp Fuse.

Friday night is also going to be a regional favorite, and the evening will conclude with humorous and nostalgic film shorts going along with the Classic Car Show and Parade theme.

Sunday will once again be aimed at families during the day, with (most likely) Nickelodeon returning, “wacky games” and some other family-friendly activities.

Throughout the weekend, the Dearborn Community Arts Council will host a small but interesting art fair, and the Dearborn Historical Society will once again be presenting the Living History Hill with reinactors and an encampment.

The usual group of non-profits will be offering food and beverages, and entertainment will still be offered on three different stages, in addition to the nighttime acts on the Main Stage.

Of course, the spectacular fireworks will take place on Saturday and Sunday.

We should have the festival brochure ready for posting on the website in mid-June, with hard copy distribution by the first week in July. The festival is Aug. 7-9.

Have I mentioned I hate social networking sites?
This could be why no one ever finds me...keeping a low profile is an artform.

Anyhow I wanted to make mention of something you all might find interesting.

If you got contacted by Harris Connect Inc. (the alumni directory thing) you might want to reconsider participating.
What they failed to mention is the information you provide, as well as what was provided by the school board can and will be sold to other marketing firms. So your paying for the privilege of having your info sold and resold and getting more marketing crap in your life.

I've been in touch with the US Department of Education, they took a dim view of the school board selling this information without providing the required notice to us to opt out.
And if you think this isn't that big of a deal or important, they didn't just disclose your demographic information, name last address etc., they sold your entire transcript - grades, classes, teachers. I wish I could tell you more about it, but after 8 requests to know what information was sold, and being lied to by DPS, I had to resort to letting the Dept. of Education take over. If your still not concerned, you do know DPS has all of our Social Security Numbers on file. They broke 1 federal law, whats a couple more?

So whats going on people?

Thanks for the input John. Yes, I was contacted by Harris and others last year in May and August. I got a bad feeling and figured what they were doing...and education departments! I logged it, but didn't follow thru as you did. GREAT job! Let me know if you need anything or supporting information or who I talked to. I found it OUTRAGEOUS also.

Hi All,
Thank You to Jennifer Cook and any others involved in the mailing. Without seeing your name on the card I would have never known about this site. Kudos to whoever is hosting the site looks good and info seems rightly accessible (hidden).
I was also getting sick of Harris promoting itself both e-mail and snailmail as if they were contracted to contact us. It was easy enough to read it for what it was. But it made me sick enough to reply with hate-mail and request to be pulled off their list (which I don't think that happened). I'm guessing they were trying to be a lesser more profit driven classmates which I didn't like so much either.

Harris Connect was sold all of our info to contact us and make the book by DPS. The problem is unless you tell them to remove your info they will put it in their overpriced book, and then your going to end up getting more marketing junk. Oh and DPS gets an updated mailing list they can use for fundraising...

DPS gets a cut of every book sold, and that cut gets a little bigger if they get a higher percentage of people buying the book. So this could be why they refused to admit that the info was going to be sold to marketers or even acknowledge the program when it first mailed the letter from the "principal" of EF today.

I'm not sure how far they are from publishing the book at this point, but if they are still doing mailings do contact them and tell them to put you on the "Do Not Connect" list and to remove your information from the database and book.

Sorry if I am ranting, but I've been fighting this for over a year now. Got tired of being lied to, and no answer to if they sold SS#'s to. Dept. of Education called me this morning, they finally got a response to the official complaint but haven't reviewed it yet. They are mailing me a copy of DPS's response. I'll give a shout if there is anything worthwhile in it.

The site looks WONDERFUL thanks Mel. Also, thank you soo much Michelle for working on the picnic. I think it is a great idea...like you said not only the adults, but bring the kids and everyone to continue to spend more time together and reestablishing relationships and as always, Homecoming is a gas with a headlining act and the fireworks! ;)See you all soon (we're with the 80 day window now and it'll be here before we know it)!

To John Bailey's post about Harris Connect er whatever it's called. I remember getting those post cards. I just kept ignoring them. Found this site from just looking up my name one time and was surprised to find it here. So yea. Guess glad I never called or replied to that stuff.

Noticed a lot of people are on Facebook too. Just to let others know, if want to talk more and see more pics ect ect.. Nothing against this site. It's great that someone went through the trouble of putting it together. ;)

Anyways. I'm working on getting a week off around the time of the reunion. Being that I've had a loss of a job and gained a new one recently, it's now not set in stone that I'd get a vacation then. But I'll figure something out. Be fun to hang with everyone and spend a few days in the Dearborn area again.

Later

Questions have been coming up as to attire. What is everyone planning to wear? Casual? Dressy? Semi-formal? Weigh in on the new User Forums under "Reunion Details": http://forums.efhs1989.com/index.cfm

06/08/09 10:43 PM #92

Robert Roza

Are you guys ready to do this thing?!?!?? Oh my God, down to the last 60 days! Don' want to Summer to fly by, but can't wait to see everyone. The reunion and entire weekend is going to be a gas! Just be sure to take care of the little things now...get tickets, hotel, flight reservations NOW and well in advance. Save money and relax and just wait for the event instead of scrambling at the last minute.

I know there's a new forum, but since I'm posting already, I'm thinking of either wearing a nice suit, going Ed Hardy with some leather pants and boots and a cowboy hat, or parachute pants and curling my hair and putting in some Spritz! Can we take a vote and the majority vote is how I'll dress?? ;) I'm just kidding....well, sorta! :O

Ok I have a question, I do not have a Paypal account, can I send a check to someone instead. Also, my plan is to wear dressy bar night out attire, in case anyone wants to bar hop too, after the reunion ;0)

06/15/09 09:47 AM #95

Robert Roza

Deb (and everyone)

You can pay THRU Paypal WITHOUT having an account. Just follow the instructions from the reunion site and once it gets into the Paypal stuff, there is some verbage and a link that says if you don't have a Paypal account, click here to pay with credit card or check (routing and account number, etc would be needed off the physical check to input).

Jennifer Carson (Sams)

I plan to wear going out clothes too Debi. Little dressy, sexy, but nice! I still have not got my tickets, just trying to decide if I should bring hubby or not? I go back and forth with the whole idea. Well can't wait to see everyone.

Please update with items which you will bring to the picnic. The time is coming up quickly. I am waiting to hear from Dearborn about the Kegerator (which Rob was going to bring). Also will give more detail of the exact location of where we will be at the Homecoming. Again, any ideas, let me know.

Just wanted to let everyone know that I added more photos from the Senior Prom, Dance, Party, etc (thanks again Michelle).

All photos and yearbooks, etc., can be accessed off my PhotoBucket site: http://s446.photobucket.com/albums/qq189/rmroza/EFHS/

Michelle, unfortunately, the Event Brochure under Alcohol Policy states - "all alcohol much be purchased and consumed" at Ford Field! :(

Updates about the Reunion Picnic... Saturday August 08,2009 at 11am.

There is a website that you can view the many activities for that day, including various contests, free children's games, a guitar hero tournament at 5pm, also a live performance by Rick Springfield at 08:30 pm-10 pm and to conclude the evening with the fireworks at 10pm.

The website is: http://cityofdearborn.org/news/homecoming09/homecoming09.shtml

This also explains the location of the picnic table areas for the reunion schools. Parking is $5.00 at Ford Field. There is free shuttle service if you park at several lots in the area.

Also, please continue to send me updates as to what you will be bringing to pass. Any questions, as always send me an email. Looking forward to a great turn out, a wonderful day for the family and to meet with old friends.

Just wanted to say that you all rock! We had a huge surge in ticket sales these past few days. I'm looking forward to a great reunion. Don't forget we'll have a class picnic (thanks to Michelle Price!) the day following the reunion. I'm sure both events will be great. Don't forget...BOOK YOUR DISCOUNTED HOTEL by July 10th. You don't have to pay upfront, just give a credit card to hold it. Here's the link: http://www.efhs1989.com/class_custom4.cfm

Great responses for items for the picnic. Please keep me updated as to how many will be coming and what item that you will be bringing. The count will give us a better number on how many tables to reserve. Also, do not forget to bring blankets for the hill to watch the fireworksat night. You don't want to miss Rick Springfield! Should be a great turn out. Thanks again for all of the support. This might be a tradition that we continue yearly or bi-yearly. We will need to take a vote to see how often we would want a get together??!! Let me know.
