Larry McMillen

I just now discovered this forum. Don't ask why. I'm just very old fashioned and not into social media. It's too wrong to not connect with people who ere so special  in yor life. I just saw on our website Yates Lou Pixler passed away.  He was so very special to me.  I regret that I never kept in touch. I also just read that  Joannie Beverson passed away. My God I can hardly bear it. She was such a wonderful girl and friend. I pray every night for Jim and Jackie Stone, and I hope that all of you do too. I best sign off. This just got too heavy. Larry

I just discovered this forum as well (Larry).  I thought I had been keeping up with the site, but wow, I think this is the first time since we moved to Indiana (2.5 yrs.)  I feel like I "know nutting." about what is going on.  Glancing over the messages in this forum, it looks like so few people are taking part.  I truly enjoy hearing from and reading about old classmates and what is going on in their lives.  I truly do NOT like reunions, as I don't like to be where lots of people are talking all at once (undiagnosed AD?) but I did say I would attend the 60th.

An update on me for anyone who might care: We moved to Terre Haute, Indiana 2.5 yrs. ago on Memorial Day weekend.  Our youngest daughter lives here, and she is a single Mom with three young girls.  We were retired and saw no reason not to move near her so we could help with child care when she found a job.  We gave up a house we had just spent 10 yrs. remodeling and bought another  that needs all kinds of work, which we have started.  I hope it does not take 10 years to get this one in shape.

Although Jim and both officially retired, we really haven't.  Jim, being younger than me, still wants to work a few moe years, and I, although not "working," do care for my granddaughters 3 a.m.s before school and 4 p.m.s after school.  We also have a big garden and can/freeze many things to fill our pantry for the next year.  We have 28 chickens, one spastic dog and one old cat.  We live on .97 acre which we have dubbed "Little Acre."  We both love the country life but  will probably eventually move back closer to our roots, perhaps the Hicksville area.  I have stipulated that the next place we buy will be completely finished, new or near new and need nothing done to it for as long as we live!!!

Earlier this year I filled in at a local law firm a couple different times; just enough to let me know that I am glad I am retired and that I don't want to do it again.  It was like starting all over in a new job.  I'll take my jeans and the chicken coop any day!!

I am sad for Jackie Stone and I, too, pray for her complete healing.  I was saddened to hear of Joanie's passing as well.  We are all on that downslope now, no matter whether we want to be or not.  As I learn of serious illnesses and deaths of people my age, I am very thankful for my health, all the while knowing it could be snatched away in a second.  I  cannot end this without saying that I am a believer in eternal life for those who profess Christ as their Savior, and if you reading this are not, I sincerely hope you will give it a great deal of thought.  Like Joanie and others of our age who died earlier, we too will die, and we will live again; where will be determine by the decisions we make now.

Didn't mean to write a book.  Have a great day! Smile at someone you don't know! Thank a Veteran! Compliment your spouse or significant other!  Call your Mom or Dad if you are fortunate to still have them!  Be kind to a crabby clerk or waitress!

Good to hear from you, too, Ray.  I recently drove to CA with my sister Linda and stayed there for an additional week.  It was a "cold spell'" of temps in 90s, I believe.  The weather guy said normal highs would return the following week.  I was soooo glad to return to this part of the country!!  Don't know how you stand it!

Delighted to see the pictures from our class get- together a couple weeks ago!  Everyone looks great!  Sorry I wasn't able to make it...and hope to get to the next one!    Thanks to whoever took and posted/shared the pictures.  Love seeing everyone.

Hope everyone has a good winter (holidays included) and we all survive whatever weather comes our way.  ha!  One advantage to being retired and 71 is that I don't feel the least bit guilty about staying home when the snow flies or the roads even think about being nasty.  :o)

To you lucky (and smart!!!) folks who winter in the south or west (or anywhere warm!!), enjoy.  I still love the changing seasons and for whatever weird reason, look forward to the snow and cold ....for awhile anyway.

Hugs to all!

Marianna

Boo!

I looked for the pics, but all I saw were more pics of old people.  Where are our classmates?

Speak for yourself, Lois.  Everybody looks just as they did 53 years ago.

Ah, Larry, you know I was just joshin'.   It is cold and snowy here in Indiana and it is "beginning to look a lot like Christmas!"  And, hey Roestis and all others who keep up with the Forum - I hope you all have a wonderful and blessed Christmas!  Please do spend some time thinking about the gift we all received 2013 years ago.

In Lafayette, Indiana, Mr. Pinky, it is 18 degrees with about 8 inches of snow on the ground.  Forecast to get another inch or so later today.    Flip flops, sand and the beach sound mighty good about now.  :o)

However, this kind of weather makes for really fluffed up and cute birds, really gorgeous "scenery" and an amazing appreciation for a warm snug house and a cup of hot coffee.

Merry Christmas!!

Hugs,

Marianna

In Louisiana  our worse day of winter is nicer than the best day of winter that we grew up inn I don't miss the cold or (especially) the snow.  Larry

We used to talk about moving Southwest when we retired, but by the time we got this old, we chose to stay near family.  I do like the change of seasons, though.  Each has its own beauty.  Today we are going to have a heat wave (in the 40s) and even hotter by Friday (50).  I have to admit, a sandy beach does sound good today!

Greetings from Oregon it has been a very cold winter so far in Southern Oregon, but I still enjoy the outdoors and the activities that we have here. Moving from California to Oregon was a bit of a adjustment but the benifit is that we are closer to our children and grandkids. I keep contact with the people of Defiance through a couple of social Facebook sites and it has been a great avenue for a walk down memory lane. I hope that the new year will bring good health and well being to all my former classmates.

Hope everyone is keeping safe and warm ......it has been QUITE a winter so far (in west central Indiana) this year.  I am quickly losing my good feelings about gentle snow and brisk temperatures.  blah.   However, I probably will remember these days with some kind of "fondness" next summer when it is 90 degrees with high humidity.  Right now, that doesn't sound so bad.  Ha!

I just wanted to share that I have SO enjoyed a couple Defiance oriented pages on Facebook the last few months.....many many trips down memory lane and it is such fun to read comments from former classmates and others from Defiance.  There's so much history that I never appreciated in 1960, but sure do now!   It is great to again feel "rooted" in Defiance.....I believe we grew up in a great place and time.

Thanks to you who are keeping up this website....I love to check in and catch up with everyone.  And isn't it 'funny' that as we grow older, how much better we understand our parents?   Kind of amazing!

Smiles to all.

Marianna

Love reading all your comments. Just spent 3 weeks in Florida with our daughter, son-in-law, and 3 grandkids. Had a great time, and weather was great.. We're beach people, and Ft. Myers Beach is great for that.. Still love Indiana weather tho... Good to be home...! Hope everybody had a great Christmas, and wish all of you a Happy, Healthy New Year.  Stay warm here up north, and take care of each other.. God bless...!

Forgot to mention in my former post--- we left 8 grandkids and 3 kids back home in IN while we were in Florida.. Missed a few basketball games, but everybody survived..  They were cold, and we enjoyed the sunshine.. OH WELL, sucks to be them...!!

Well, Sally, even though I have been right here in Indiana where 3 of my 4 grandkids live, I missed many concerts, competitions, games etc this winter so far....because of the darn weather!  They are 2 hours south of me and even though it's interstate all the way......I'm not willing to skitter around out there anymore with the semis and other drivers who are in a big hurry when the roads are slippery.    Yesterday I WAS able to watch a live streaming broadcast of an entire swim/dive conference meet that took place in Columbus (Indiana).....it was great!    Sittin' in my family room, all toasty warm  and getting to watch all the action.  The next best thing to being there!  ha!   We did, however, spend Thanksgiving and Christmas with all of us together.....so I can't complain.

An awfully big bunch of us are ready for spring....MORE than ready!  ha!

Stay warm and safe.

Marianna

Thanks for responding to my post Marianna and Lois... I really can't picture myself anywhere but north except for 4-6 weeks in Florida... This is where our family is.. Lois, I still wear make-up to bed sometimes, but after 51 years together it's okay.. I wish you knew Denny.. He's a neat guy.. He just loves me for myself.  We have truly been blessed in our 51 years together.. Sometimes it feels like yesterday that we met...  We grew up together.. I was a child bride, you know..LOL Anyway, this website is such a great way to keep in touch... Hope to see you at one of our functions. Whoever the committee is does a great job of keeping things going.. God's blessings to both of you.. I wish you peace!!

I hope all of you keep on writing. I seem to get sentimental reading everything and anything you all write. On Dec 19 I had a total knee replacement on my left knee. Can't wait to get back on my horse. Went back to work in 3 weeks.  PT is miserable, but hopefully it will completely pay off. Today was a sunny 60 degrees here in La.  I really don't miss winter.  My love to all of you. Larry

I don't get on the class website very often but I was reading the posts this AM from Lois Farris, Sally McBride, and Marianna Bolley and besides graduating together, what else do I have in common with these young ladies? It finally dawned on me that all of us  were in catechism class at St Pauls Lutheran Church taught by Rev. Ralph Hax. Did you remember? I thought that was kinda neat. Glad you're all doing well..   Doug Davis
