Barbara R. Newland, 64, of Tiffin, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2011, at The Toledo Hospital. She was born Jan. 2, 1947, in Bremen, Germany, to Andrew and Elfriede (Krug) Baranowski. 

Survivors include a son, Jay (Rumi Barcinas) Newland; and a daughter, Amy (Will) LeGrant, both of Tiffin; three sisters, Evelyn (Paul) Wuthrich of North Carolina, Marita (Werner) Hilbers of Germany, and Uta (Jerry) Schroeder of Troy; two grandchildren, Allison and Samantha; and her dog, Nicholas. 

Preceding her in death were her parents and her dog, Molly.

Barbara was a 1965 graduate of Defiance High School, attended The Ohio State University and received her bachelor of arts and science at The University of Toledo. She lived in Virginia then moved back to Ohio in 1980.

Barbara was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Tiffin, and distributed communion to the shut-­ins. She worked at Sandusky, Defiance, and Seneca County Job and Family Services. She worked as an investigator for Children's Services for over 20 years, retiring from Seneca County Department of Job and Family Services in 2002. She loved the winter season, traveling, and her grandchildren. She was active at The Ritz Theatre, where she volunteered and performed on stage. 

Her Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Tiffin, with the Rev. Gary Walters officiating. A rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to the Mass.

Friends may visit with the family from 2­-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7, at Hoffmann­-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin.
