I am so sorry to hear of Sharon's passing this past week. I will keep her husband and extended family in my thoughts and prayers at this difficule time. May the Christ Child bring Peace into their lives as they prepare for His birth!
I have many fond memories of a lot of fun times that Diane Sample, Sharon and I had our Freshman and Sophomore years of High School. It was kind of the typical high school things kids do like, skipping school, sitting in a tiny llittle cofee shop drinking Pepsi, having a cigarette now and then while we listen to the jukebox. Yes, we got caught now and then. We would get suspended and have to go down to the convent on Saturday mornings and either work cleaning the convent or go over tothe school and help one of the nuns in their classrooms. I had to work in the art room. I cannot remember the nuns name but that is beside the point, I made up te time! What ever we did, we never really hurt anyone else. I remember one summer that she and Diane took Sharon's mom's Ford Mustang while she was sleeping. They came and picked me up. (I need to put in here that none of us had driver's license at the time). We went down by 72nd street not to far from my house where there was this new higway being built. We went for a drive and got stuck in some mud. The construction crew had to get one of those big earth moving machines to pull us out. We went back to my house, wahed the mud and dirt off of the car. Fortunately, Sharon got back home with about 10 minutes to spare before her mom woke up to go to work!:) I don't think any of our parents found out about our joy riding episodes!:) We were kind of like the three muskateers!:)
One more memory was the end of our sophomore year. There was just a couple weeks of school left before summer break. The three of us decided that since we were getting new uniforms for our junior and senior year that we would right crazy stuff on our uniforms and our tennis shoes. As we were sitting down in our first period class JP comes over the loud speaker and calls the three of us to the office. Boy, she laid into us and told us how trashy we looked and what a disgrace to the school we were. We had to call our parents to come and get us. We could not return to school unitl our unifors and shoes were free of all of the ink writings that were on them. Fortunately, I had two skirts and two jackets. We did have to stop and get a new pair of shoes. Which I had to pay for out of my babysitting money. So, I was able to go back as soon as I got changed! Mom wasn't going to let me sit at home and watch TV etc!!! I don't know about the other two but my parents plunished me for a couple weeks. I am not sure how soon Sharon and Diane were able to reutrn to school. Of course we had to have detention in the convent on Saturday morning.
So, as you can see we were maybe not "normal" kids; but, we had fun together and didn't hurt anyone but ourselves and maybe our parents to some extent! There are several other stories; but, this was by far the worst of the things we did.
Fond memories of a high school classmate that brings a smile to my face on one hand and sadness in my heart for the family on the other hand.
Love and Prayers,
