Education was her ministry but, boy, did Sister love to dance! She danced as the president of the College of Mount St. Joseph as the bread and wine were brought up at Mass. Dancing with the Denver Grand Opera Company was one of the highlights of her life.
Sister died July 1st. She was 94.
Sister came to Cincinnati for a bachelor's degree which she earned from the College of Mount St. Joseph in 1953. She returned to serve as president from 1977 to 1987. Sister brought their institution to financial stability, by partnering with the broader business community. She integrated the college's liberal arts mission and career based education. She opened its doors to serve a broader student body, almost doubling enrollment. More adults, and students with learning disabilities and minority and low income students can to campus under her leadership. The new student center at the Mount was named after her at its dedication in 1998.
Sister was most proud when she was able to make a difference for youths. She looked to open doors for them, particularly in education and improvved living situtations
Memorials can be made in Sisters Jean Patrice Harrington's name to Mount St. Joseph University or the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati Retirement Fund, 5900 Delhi Rald, Mount St. Joseph, Ohio 45051.

As we are confident that Sister Jean Patrice now resides with the LORD, we will forever remember the days of her life that were sown into ours.

Even though I was not with sister when she died, I had been with her daily for two weeks and she was never in pain nor was she agitated. Her stroke kept her from swallowing, made it very difficult to talk but she did talk to me with her eyes and was very much At peace. Through the years she always remembered her great days at Cathedral high school I think that those were her most wonderful years of her life. Lynn Heper

She kept some of us who might have fallen off the edge from getting lost in the wilderness of the times.
Fond memories of being with her...Sheila and Winsong at the Cosmos Club and popping a cork on a good bottle of bubbly Sad

I will always credit the nuns, and especially Sister Marie Florence and Sister Jean Patrice, for getting me where I am today. They were tough, but knew what was best when I didn't. They didn't coddle, but they encouraged in their own way. They always let me know I could do better and wouldn't accept poor excuses. Even when I didn't like it, I knew that they were right. Sister Marie Florence and I communicated after she left the convent and Sister Jean Patrice and I when she was back in Cinncinnati. They were remarkable women at a time when women leaders were far fewer than today.
