Sister Jeanine Marie Holthouse died on Wednesday, May 2, 2018, following a brief illness.
The following is part of the reflection of one of the Sisters of Charity given at Sister Jeanine Marie's service.
"Jeanine had a heart and a personality bigger than life itself. She spent her entire professional career teaching math or serving in high school administration. She was also a mentor to many young teachers, a cheerleader at hundreds (if not thousands) of sporting events, a spporter of school activities and a major seller of candy bars and chances. Even in retirement, she tutored several students who needed a little extra help with math. When she was no longer able to teach, she gave generously of her time, greeting visitors who came to Mother Margaret Hall. She greeted everyone with a smile. Jeanine truly was a living example of God's love to everyone she encountered.:

I had been with Sr. Jeanine Marie daily for the last 10 days. She just all of the sudden stopped walking, did not want to eat or do anything. I had been with her most of Wednesday morning and she was peaceful. We did talk about the good ole days at Cathedral last week. She as a good lady and I will miss her. Lynn Heper

Learning of Sister Jeanne Marie's homegoing brings us all many memories of her gentle strength as she walked with us through our high school years. I will always appreciate her patience as she helped me survive math classes and her encouragement to that clumsey girl (me) during PE. The LORD has brought an amazing woman into Heaven and into His Presence -- forever! I am so blessed to have known her.

As I believe I have shared before, Sister Jeanne Marie was a primary reason for me getting into college and becoming an engineer. Unbeknown to me at the time. I am Dyslexic - meaning I am good not at reading and writing, which was well known to all of my high school teachers. I also greatly appreciated all of the nuns who read the instructions to the tests out loud beforehand. Because, I didn’t read anything of any length until I was a sophomore in college, when I had to read Dostoevsky’s, Crime and Punishment to pass my only college undergraduate English class. One of the hardest things that I have ever done. I also greatly appreciate technology with Microsoft’s Spell Check and Google asking, “Did you mean -----“. Because without them, I probably could not legibly write this letter of appreciation. But Sister Jeanne Marie taught me math, which was good enough to get me into Colorado State University and into the engineering program.
I have decided that my philosophy of life is: to make the world a better place – just by being in it – and then fixing it one project at a time. And she really made my world a better place. If there is a heaven, I am sure that she has a great place in it. Thanks Again Sister Jeanne Marie, you are a Saint and God Send to me – John Hinterreiter

I am so sorry to read of Sister Jean Marie's passing. As so many of my classmates have said, "thank you sister Jean Marie for helping me get through Math class one step at a time somedays. I also have fond memories of Sister teaching PE class which was another one of the classes that I had a hard time getting through because of my lack of coordination of eyes, hands and feet at the same time!:)
Sister was so kind, gentle, understanding and most importantly would so often take the time to listen when and give advice when it was needed. I know that you have a very special place in the hearts of so many lives that you touched throughout your teaching career. God Bless you and rest in peace with your fellow Sisters of Charity who have welcomed you home into God's Kingdom!:)
