Cheryl - we have had a record breaking 3 inches of snow this winter....more than the total accummulation for the 9 winters we have been here! We are definitely ready for spring...the daffodils are starting to come up! Hope everyone in the northeast has stayed safe with all the crazy weather you have had.
I feel your pain Cheryl with the college search/financial aid apps/etc! I am so glad we are done with that part for now with our oldest. She is thrilled to be at the Univ of Georgia which was her first choice. Hopefully she will keep her grades up so we don't lose the Hope Scholarship! For those of you unfamiliar with the Hope, it is funded by the lottery program, and applies to GA state residents. If students graduate H.S. with at least a 3.5 average in core classes, they qualify for the scholarship which pays tuition at state colleges and universities. But they have to keep a 3.0 once they get to college or you lose it. So far so good with us...but you never know...as y'all remember one bad class can send your GPA plummeting. What is your daughter's first choice of schools to go to Cheryl?? Good luck with everything!
Hi Everybody- Thanks for your warm responses to the tragedy in Chile. Seems like everyone is having weird weather conditions this year. I hope you all are safe.
Cheryl- I feel your pain- I remember the headache of financial aid forms and the stress of the whole application process. Best wishes to Vittoria so that she will make a good choice.
Debbie- thanks for thinking of me.
Please continue to pray for hope for some poor people who are really devasted.
Our visitor who is a journalist is stuck in Kito, Equator and will be here 10 days late so her work trip is reduced to 4 days. Please continue to pray for hope for some poor people who are really devasted.
We will keep praying Anna. I hope Chile can rebuild the broken as soon as possible...including the lives affected by this disaster. Haiti, like New Orleans will need years, and it is so hard to think about the lives destroyed by this travesty.
I wish we had HOPE here Deb! Sounds like a great deal to me. We have been looking into scholarships, but there is so much to weed through and I feel we are a bit behind. Vittoria was offered a 50,000.00 merit scholarship to Albright College in Pa. I thought it was a miracle. We went to look at it. the people seem super. She does not have a good feeling about it. I am frustrated. Her first choices now are Stonehill C in Mass and Loyola Maryland. She doesn’t know if she is accepted to Loyola yet. She was also accepted at Montclair State which we still have to see and Quinnipiac in Ct. This weekend we are driving to Burlington, Vt to visit St. Michael’s. They have not yet sent her an acceptance either. So we still wait, wonder, investigate, apply, hold our breaths, and DO A LOT AF PRAYING!!
Whatever happens, wherever Vittoria is accepted, be comforted in knowing that God will place her in the best place for her. UGA was not my choice for Christina at all, we really liked Auburn best. But now with almost a year under her belt, she has so much in her favor. UGA has an incredible psychology program, she can use the HOPE scholarship, (not valid in Alabama) and we can see now that UGA IS the place for her to be. She is so happy and content there, and thats what matters. You want Vittoria to be happy. The money issues will resolve themselves somehow if its an expensive school (we figured we'd be eating mac n cheese alot if she went to Auburn). And if worse comes to worse, there are plenty of loans available to her. Even though we don't like the thought of saddling our kids with a "house payment without a house", you will do what you have to do! You will all be in my prayers for an easy decision making process for Vittoria!
Snow flurries here today n Peachtree City GA! Wild wild winter for sure! Atlanta hasn't seen this much snow in 10 years!
Lisa, Thanks for sharing the beautiful picture of Noah. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this sad and difficult time. May your special memories of Noah help to comfort you. He was very lucky to have you in his life.
Anna and Greg, Thinking of you and your neighbors and glad to hear that you are fine. The people of Chile are in my prayers.

I just found out yesterday about Rich’s mom. I don’t think you come on here too often, Rich so I’ll write you directly, but our prayers are with you. I am sorry and I remember fondly your mom as we were growing up.
It has been a difficult week. A wonderful woman from our town died in last Saturday’s horrific storm. In Ct. visiting her 3 sisters for a birthday celebration, her car was struck by a tree, and although her sisters were not harmed, she, the driver, died. I don’t know the details, but I understand it was very bad. She left 2 beautiful children and her husband. Her daughter is in Cristian’s 5th grade class, her son is in 1st grade. I taught him karate. Jennifer Thibault was involved in the church, preschool, and elementary school and was only 39. It has hit us so hard. the day after I found out my boys and I came down with the stomach virus. Just beginning to feel better, but I can’t shake Jennifer’s death. Her wake and funeral were overwhelming.
Please keep her family in your prayers. Thank you.
Lisa, I have to read back to find out about Noah. I don’t know what happened, so forgive me for not saying anything yet.
Deb, Anna, We are getting closer to figuring out where Vitt might go. I too, believe that God will place her-hopefully. We have one more financial aid package to receive and I have phone-calling to do about loans, etc. She wants to major in psychobiology and minor in criminology. She would like to work for the CIA-oh boy. That might be a good thing as far as loans are concerned...and info out there would be gladly accepted!
What a glorious day it was after such a bleak week! Enjoy the warmth!
Hi all, Thanks for the many B-day greetings. I had a great day and believe I look quite a bit younger than my 50 years (please visualize tongue in cheek). You know..life is good and when you hear about something like Cheryl's young friend loosing her life in a freak accident, you just have to appreciate your blessings all the more. Cheryl, I can see how a service like that would be overwhelming. I will remember your friend and her family in my prayers. I hope all of you are thawing out from the long snowy and wet winter. Spring is here. I have seen two baby hatchlings in my yard Their Mama very wisely built the nest in the interior of a very prickly cactus which offers the babies great protection from any predator...(like the falcon who has made my yard his new hood!) and the little geckos are starting to come out. Desert wildflowers are blooming and it's a lovely time of year here. I gotta get me a camera so I can post some pictures! hope you are all well stay in touch. Tom, Sorry I keep missing the IM's....sometimes it's David not me! xoxo Lisa
Hey Lisa. Happy B'day. I think we need to all get together and celebrate one big 50th bash!!! Heading up to VT. spring skiing. What i love. No minus degree weather and the sun shining.
Hi Everyone...haven't been on here in sooo long! Wanted to wish everyone a happy 50th! bdays to all I missed. I am soo bad on keeping up with all of them.
It's so nice to see the sun out today, but its a bit to chilly for me. Last weekend was so beautiful out, I want it back. Soon, I hope.
Hope to talk and see everyone soon! Happy Easter to all!!
John Kressman called me and reminded me of something - He and I are now card-carrying AARP members.
Hmmm...
I plan to keep it tucked in my wallet and maybe use the AARP card occasionally for discounts, but I still feel way too young to whip that thing out very often (the card that is). I'm in the denial stage of course, so today I'm going to quit 50 and go right back to age 40; restarting from there - like a "do over". If people say I look not-so-good for 40, I'll simply explain that it's probably because I went to Catholic school. That should work.
It's just an experiment, but I think I'll live longer in "actual" years, wander around my neighborhood less, and have lower blood pressure as a result. I'll let you all know how it goes.
Happy 50th to all.
Greg
PS: did you notice I went ALL winter without even once mentioning the weather out here? My gift to you.
Okay, so I've been the new "40" for one whole week and it's really not that bad. I was thinking of sending the AARP card back...that is until Greg reminded me of the possible discounts to be had. Hope all of you are well. Margaret, thanks for the b-day wishes. I'm still walking home from work a couple of times a week and now that the weather is near perfection here....(Oh hell, I didn't mean to mention the weather) I should be footing it even more often. I do see a 50's bash sometime in the future. Of course we may all be closer to "41" then, but it won't matter. Stay well. Hi JoAnn. Tom, enjoy the road trip!!! xoxo Lisa
ok Need a little help, I was reading these directions the other day since I was stuck inside and I need some one to tell me what a Cubit? damn directions for this ark wish they at least updated measurements to inches or maybe meters......
Forecast for the Balance of the week in SOGGY NJ is Sun, hopefully we will actually get to enjoy it for more than a couple days....
Thanks Cheryl. I saw that my birthday was listed on the upcoming birthdays, but Faith's was not. Does that mean I have to get older and carry my AARP card while she gets to stay in her 40's like Greg?
How odd. I have nothing to do with posting the birthdays, it happens automatically. Probably the system recognized your name, but only once. In any case, happy belated to you both! Hope it was memorable.
