Hi everyone,

Elmer I meant no disrespect in your beliefs, but my philososophy of life is simple ( like me ) You do good things and good things will happen. Tell Mary I said hi,and post some pictures of your pups.
Now for the rest of you girls, it's going to take more than a couple of pictures of marguritas for you girls to start handing out any singles But what the hell.Liz if you see Mr. Poggie soon tell him happy birthday (June 19 ) Kind of wierd that I know that, But that's me.
Now those under 18 close your eye's.

A guy goes into a bar and meets a woman and they both begin drinking. Soon they get into an argument about who enjoys sex more. The man says that men obviously enjoy sex more. Why do you think were so obsessed with it? That proofs nothing the woman counters. Think about this: when your ear itches and you put your
little finger in it and wiggle it around then pull it out, which feels better, your ear or your finger?

Hello Everybody...

Wow,I guess we should keep our conversations to only a few subjects:Dogs,Hair Color,Jokes & an over weight Buckey running around in his wrestling uniform.

Liz,
Why so bitter? Do you think being philosophical or spiritual is a bad thing?
I can understand that you may not want to participate in the conversations, that's your choice. We did all go to Catholic school. In order to avoid dissing anyone,I will ask that you have some respect & consideration for people that like to bounce ideas around and "wax philosophical".If you resent the conversations that are posted or find that they're not appealing to you,why don't you simply avoid them. That's what I do when I start reading un-funny jokes or constatly have to picture some over weight middle aged man running around in spandex!(No offense Bucky-I never saw you in that outfit when, apparently, you used to make the girls swoon!)

Bucky,
Thank you for reposting after you had time to reflect on what you said."Holy Crap" can be offensive to some and I'm glad that you realized that.

We should all feel comfortable participating in any conversation that we choose without being discouraged.
I am anything but religous.I posted my dislike for "Organized Religions" without trying to hurt or intimidate any one.Especialy Elmer, who is obviously very well traveled & highly educated, because it's quite obvious that world religions are his passion.

Elmer,
I would deffinately check out the church sale but traveling from Fort Lauderdale to Dover would be too frivolous!
I do know of the church in Morristown and have friends that love it there.I attended several occasions their when I lived in Jersey and found it very open minded and accepting.I go to services at S.O.M (Science of Mind)/Religious Science here in Fort Lauderdale and I love it.It's definately where I'm at at this moment.

Lisa,
La Donne's scinched waist WAS very tiny, wasn't it??
She was soft spoken & calm, but I think she would have been a different person if she didn't have her ciggy breaks. That's why she loaded on the cheap perfume,to cover up the smokey smell.I don't know which is worse. Since then,I have smelt ciggarette smoke but I sure haven't smelt any perfume quite as bad as I remember hers to be!!! Maybe it was allergies. They were a problem in N.J. but I'm fine in Fl.

I picked up my new dogs last night and we're bonding. They are so well behaved that I feel like I've had them forever.Dom & Nick are on leashes already!! I spent most of today training them.I don't know if having the 2 of them makes training easier, but so far, they've been really great...my kids!!

Marianne,
YES!!! You were Bobo & I was Manos, which means "hands".
Mrs. Herbst gave me that name in Spanish class & I never understood why.I will tell you this though-I now have a hand collection!!! Maybe she was prophetic in her choice. The symbol of hands is something that holds deep meaning in my life.
You seem just as fun & light hearted as you always were. You were one of my faves from M.C. & it's nice to catch up w/ you.

Carol,
What happened to you? Are you & Hailey really coming down here?Call me...OOOOOOX

The weather here is beautiful just about every day of the year.If I wasn't trying to open my two showrooms,I'd have a great tan,I love the sun. However,I'm committed to having the grand openings the weekend of the 21st & 22nd.Please,if you would, send me a little positive energy(or say a prayer for me),I reeaaalllly need it.I'm running all day.At least I have my boys with me now!
Actually,we're all just about to leave the Designing Eyes showroom & go home.Nite ,nite termites.......KGB

P.S.I will post some pictures of me and the boys(the dogs, you pervs) sometime this week.....Adios!

Hi Kevin,
Wish you could see my home sometime. I refer to my decor as early swap meet. I'm really proud of my garage sale style. One of my favorite pieces is a coffee table I own. It's top is heavy wood in a rectangular shape with a fabulous bright green stain. The base is made of wrought iron...very spanish style. I bought it for $50.00 from a man selling his "goods" in the park. I could tell other stories that would probably make you cringe!
Best of luck with your opening...May the design gods shine down on you and draw the crowds in. Have a great time with it.
xoxo Lisa

Buck,

I really didn't take offense. I have these conversations with one of my brothers all the time. In fact, he was reading a book on feminist theology I had on my coffee table and said "who the hell would know what the terms 'the trinity in se' means?" "Only a nut like you."

I did post a picture of my two dogs on my profile.

Talk with you soon...

Kevin,

Good luck at the opening. My brother is going to decorate my niece's apartment in Coral Gables, I'll tell him to stop by your showroom.

Lisa,

The best flea market in NJ is in a place called Buttzville (home of the famous 'Hotdog Johnnie's--I don't eat there because I'm a vegetarian). When I lived in Hackettstown, I found just about everything I needed or didn't need (as the case may be) to decorate the house. On Saturday morning, when I had one dog, he'd run to the car because I'd bring him and buy him a hotdog at Hotdog Johnnie's.

All my best...

Elmer

Hi Elmer,

Another great flea market is the Marshall Creeks flea market in PA. Funny you should mention Hot Dog Johnny's. My family and I would stop there all the time when we went camping in Columbia/Portland - "Driftstone on the Delaware".

Kevin,

Best of luck to you at the openings. I hope it is a huge success for you. And I was wondering myself - where is Carol?

Maureen

P.S. - This heat is so oppressive I don't know what I'm going to do when summer gets here. Lisa, I would much rather be in AZ right now!

I thought it was Ladonne Cologne?!?!? And though she was very nice, the cinched waist always made me think of "Mighty Mouse"

Kev.... it was ME!!! I f'd up the profile for you, not Maureen!!! We'll fix it this week when you're in NJ. Sorry!! Look though... now you're all into this reunion business!!!

I want to know what Elmer thinks of Joel Osteen?!?! :o)

06/09/08 06:25 PM #165

Elmer Dante

Carol,

I know youre joking&

I'd like to have Joel Osteen's bank account. I think his wife is the more interesting character: the Rev. Victoria Osteen. She pushed a flight attendant in December 2005 because she wanted a beverage spill cleaned immediately. Apparently the FBI put her and hubby Joel off the plane because she attempted to force her way into the cockpit after assaulting the stewardess.

I think he's great for a consumer society. He preaches the Gospel of Prosperity--his own. I'm frightened of his scriptural exegesis (well, in reality, he only performs isegesis--that is his own, out of context, reading something in a text that isn't there). The one thing I can say for him is that he knows how to make a dollar.

I'm not a fan of evangelical religion. I'm even more frightened that these people can command so many followers. They preach a Gospel of Prosperity when the only thing that Christ promised was a cross to each of his followers. There is an apocryphal tale that St. Theresa of Avila once fell in the mud and shook her fist at the heavens saying "if this is what you do to your friends, what do you do to your enemies?" Somehow I don't think the Rev. Joel would even consider making such a statement.

Aside from Osteen's dubious scriptural exegesis, he doesn't have enough smells and bells: no incense, no candles and no organ music. I think I need something more in religion than his big smile (and why wouldn't he be smiling, he's managed to make religion big business and has managed to sell his books in mainsteam bookstores).

At least he hasn't been involved in a sex scandal and at least he doesn't have one of the usual bad hairstyles associated with most televangelists :).

Bucky- to continue your line of no arms and legs jokes....
What do you call the guy hanging on the wall with no arms and legs?----Art
in front of the front door?----Matt
in the pool?----Bob
in a pile of leaves----Russell (a visual)

To all you dog lovers, besides running a horse farm, I've been dog training for many years. Mostly German Shepherd Dogs imported from Europe for schutzhund competitions and police dogs for homeland security.
My favorite training aids are the materials from the Monks of New Skeete. Google them, it's quite interesting. I've been to their monastary and it was a great experience! Amongst the myriad of dog training literature out there, I found their methods simple and spiritual. Let me know what you all think....

Maureen Como- Hi to Michael! Miss you guys! Your husband and I were like the best stand up routines by anyones standards! PS I can identify with your fear of flying...Since 9/11 my feet stay on the ground (or on horse back).

Lisa- Most of my adult life was spent feeling those guilty (isn't Catholsism based on guilt?) feelings from my youth. Did I disrupt class so much that my peers resented me? Did I interfere with everyones education? Was I mean to people who were "different". The guilt tore my insides out....Then I realized that it was I who was different, and still a child. Although I haven't changed much, (I'm still a cut up and refuse to grow up) I can identify with troubled youths who didn't get any attention at home and desperatly sought attention at school. Even if it was negative attention! In our middle age I am at peace with who I was as a child, and I let go of that guilt a long time ago.

Elmer- I really enjoy reading your posts! Keep it up man...

Kevin- I hope your grand openings are GRAND!

Bless you all

Great to hear you're a 'dog person.' ('Cat persons' are great, too.)

Looking forward to seeing you in October.

Harold.... "Did I disrupt class so much that my peers resented me? Did I interfere with everyones education?" The answer is YES!!! And I'm a total loser today because of it!!! So feel free to give me a horse (and board it for me) and we'll call it even!! Seems fair to me!! :o)

Marygrace... where've you been??

Elmer.... You got me.... I'm still a practicing Roman Catholic but i do admit that i get caught up in that guy's message some sunday mornings when i'm flipping through the channels. I'm a sucker for a happy story AND nice teeth!!

Liz.... When all else fails, I go right around the corner from you (Charles St) to my friend Ivana's. She's a beautician & she hooks me up with some color in her house. She's the sweetest so let me know if you want to run over there one night!!

Julianne,

I just read your updated profile and have to say that your mention of Mary Oswald brought back a lot of memories. Your description of your memories of her as "humbling" is more than apt. I've often thought about her perseverance though the years (although, I can't say that I could recall her name until I read it in your profile).

I remember that she had a beautiful face and a personality that exceeded the beauty of her face.

Nothing stopped her; she even had a part in one of the school plays. She must have had extraordinary parents.

Best regards,

Elmer

Regarding the discussion about Sal Piro from sophomore religion. He certainly was a memorable character. I recall he told stories: A Canada story, a Florida story and more, but have no recollection what the stories were about. I just remember the welcome change of pace from regular class. I brought a cassette recorder to class once and I taped one of the stories. (We told him after class) I guess at the time I thought it would be something worth keeping.

I found the tape a few weeks ago. Not much left on the tape except the last 2 minutes of the class. Its a little wierd actually hearing one of our classes from 1975 but thought you might be interested. As luck would have it, you can hear Mr. Piro recommending the movie "Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex" toward the end of this piece of audio. What are the chances of that, Bill?

The software for this reunion website doesn't provide a click through, but you can cut/paste this link into your browser and listen.

And, it's official, the anniversary of graduation was June 4, 1978, so Happy Anniversary everyone!

Hey Everybody!

Thanks for all the good wishes for my grand openings next weekend (21st & 22nd).I'll tell you this,I had four showrooms in N.J. and I don't remember any of them to be as laborious as these 2.I am so physically and mentally drained...I hope I make it to next weekend! By the way,Maureen Murphy will be flying in from Atlanta to be with me.Maybe I can coax her to at least log in and say "hi".
I told her that lots of 'yall are asking about her,but she is really busy with work, they keep her traveling a lot to Paris & Canada & Jersey.Like I said,I'll see what I can do...
My puppies are great but,oh my God,so high maintanence!!!OYE!!
Wishing every one a great weekend! Peace,KGB

Lauby,
The phrase "cut/paste this link and post in your browser" sends me running and screaming for the nearest kid who can show me how to do that...which is sad 'cause I'd like to hear that tape. Unfortunately, I never had class with Mr. Piro. I "studied" Religion Sister Georgine style whilst wedged between the disruptive Harold Cody and Bill Genevrino.
Harold...you know I'm just jokin' with ya!

Carol,
Sven will be home minding the house and the critters like a good boyfriend while I'm in NJ with all of you trading stories about our lost youth....sigh...! How about you? Are you bringing the hubby?...or a date?

Julianne,
I couldn't agree with you more about those freaky baby blue gym outfits. I'd rather have worn prison orange overalls. They really did look like the recommended garb for some wayward home for girls. Does anyone still have theirs?

Regards to everyone. I'm off of work this week and plan on doing NOTHING except float in the pool and read.
Stay well!

Rich-
What a trip down memory lane! That recording was awesome. Sal was such a piece of work, and probably still is! What was most interesting to me was the sound of the laughter from the class. Sounded like little kids.....

Lisa-
I seem to remember through the fog of so many years having a class with Sal. I think it was called "religions of the world" or something like that. Weren't you in that class too?

Most clearly I remember always trying to "upstage" Sal's humor, and getting him so frustrated his face would turn red as a beet. That, and clapping the chalk board erasers over his fro.....

Don't apologize. I got it and thanks for doing that for us! A real blast from the past.

Harold,
If I did have that class it has somehow been erased from my memory...which would be sad because it's obvious that you all enjoyed Mr.Piro tremendously. How did he react when you "chalked his fro?"

To all you Morris Catholic Dads, I hope you have a wonderful, peaceful and enjoyable day with your children!!! Love, Maureen

Marianne, thank you so much for the great directions to "your" high school. I have not been in that area of New Jersey in quite some time. It truly is beautiful up in "God's Country".

Elmer, how did your rummage sale go yesterday? I had all intentions of stopping by, but did not leave Vernon until after 2 p.m. My son was taking the ACT's yesterday. I hope it went well.

06/15/08 02:40 PM #181

Elmer Dante

Rich,

Thanks for posting the web address to here Mr Piro's voice. All of a sudden I remembered his "...on my way to Florida..." story. As I recall, he and some friends took a bus trip with a group from Holy Rosary Church. I also remember he learned about "the birds and the bees" on the steps of that particular Church. I even remember his saying that his initial response was "...my mother wouldn't do that..." (I can certainly sympathize with his reaction. One of my brothers once said that growing up in our house, one might have though that we were the result of our parents having brushed up against each other as they passed each other in the hallway. :)).

At any rate, it was greating hearing that clip and it brought back a flood of memories.

By the way, you live in a beautiful area of New York. I was on the integration team when my company purchased a company that was formerly headquartered in Dewitt (Agway). The Marx hotel was, for a year, my home away from home.

Maureen,

Thanks for asking. The rummage sale worked out very well. The Church made in excess of $1,100 to be used for its programs. The vestry was quite pleased when I gave them the final tally.

One of the things that we find is that having rummage sales such as this (in Dover) are not only about making some money for the Church (which the Church uses to fund many social programs) but also about helping the people who shop there. It really is humbling when many of your clients/shoppers find it difficult to spend $1 on an item and that they are excited about purchasing a cast away item.

Thanks again for asking. Wish you could have come. We're having an auction in November (antiques, services and new, higher end items).

Kevin,

I tried my best to sell two mid-century modern lamps that were donated to the rummage sale. I thought that I could talk somebody into a mid-century retro look. The best I could get for the two lamps was $1.

06/15/08 05:34 PM #182

Lisa Coppola

Elmer,
Did you sell them for a dollar each or a dollar for the pair? Either way, the person who bought them was a shopper after my own heart. I once bought a hanging copper light fixture at a local junk store for .99 cents. The thing didn't even work, but I thought it was great looking. I knew it was worth the price of rewiring and I planned to hang it in my kitchen. Well, procrastinator extraordinairre that I am, I never got around to doing anything with it. I sold it at my own yard sale for $20.00. The couple who bought it never even blinked an eye at the price. I'm sure that's not the nicest thing I ever did but it was one of my more lucrative moves. I also once bought a container filled with old rusty fishing lures. The colors and variety were attractive to me and I actually thought my step dad might enjoy seeing them. I think I spent $1.99 on that. Sold those for $1.00 each at the same yard sale where I unloaded the light (there were about a dozen in the container). I guess you could say I have an eye for great junk.
Glad the sale went well!
Lisa

Marianne Scerbo (Longchamp)

Happy Father's Day to all you dads out there!

Maureen,
Glad you found the high school okay. Yes, we are very lucky to live in such a beautiful area of NJ. How did Michael do on his test?

To all,
I had the weirdest dream last night. The Class of '78 was going on a trip to Italy (!) for our reunion. I saw all of you on the airplane but we never got there. The dream morphed into something else. Wonder what the interpretation means? By the way, everyone looked great. Wow! I can't believe you've all invaded my dream territory.

To Rich,
Thanks so much for the audiotape of Mr. Piro. He was one of the most animated teachers I ever had, as well as a great drama coach.

Love to all and have a great week! I am administering finals this week; I have to grade the essays, and grades are due in by Thursday afternoon. Thursday night is graduation, and Friday is the last day for teachers. I can't believe my first year of teaching is coming to a close. It's a very elated, yet bittersweet, feeling. Go figure.
