Ray and I dated my last two years of High School and then married 10/26/68. He was in the Air Force and we were assigned to Germany for 4 years. We traveled in Europe and were assigned to Northern Main when we returned to the states. Jennifer was born there and we enjoyed camping and fishing. We were there for 4 years and then Ray was assigned a remote assignment for a year to Alaska and I moved back to Derby. We then moved to California where I attended Skadron College and received a degree in accounting. After 4 years we were reassigned to upstate New York where we once again enjoyed activities in the outdoors. Our final assignment was to Ellsworth AFB in Rapid City, South Dakota and we settled here. Ray retired from the Air Force and now works as an advisor at the VA Hospital in Sturgis (yes - that's where the motorcycle rally is every August). Our daughter married a service man, David, and they have two beautiful children Jakob 10, and Ashleigh 8. They are only 6 minutes from us now and we enjoy spending time with them.
I was active in our local Literacy Council tutoring people to read for some time. Then in 2003 I was privilaged to serve as a Volunteer Missionary/English As A Second Language Teacher in Niigata, Japan for 7 1/2 months with the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod. It was a wonderful experience and one I will never forget.
I did accounting until last October when I felt called to do something less stressful and more rewarding. I accepted the position for church secretary in a downtown church in Rapid City and it has been very rewarding. We have many transients and just people off the street coming in for help, questions, and spiritual guidance and I can't think of anything more uplifting than helping others.
We enjoy being in the beautiful Black Hills, Mt. Rushmore, the Bad Lands and Custer State Park. We work in our yard in the summer and mostly hybernate in the winter. I'm active in my church, Divine Shepherd Lutheran in Black Hawk where I enjoy teaching 3rd - 6th grade Sunday School and VBS, being in the Alter Guild, doing the monthly church Newsletter, and taking Bible Classes. I also teach beginning guitar to anyone interested (free classes - adults and kids). I have had as many as 12 at one time but now we are down to about 6.
Well, that's about it for me! Sorry I won't be able to make it down for the reunion but I'll keep an eye on this site to see what you are all up to. Have a great time!
Gym was my last period class and Ray would come and pick me up from school. He would park in the Junior High parking lot and when we had archery, the target just happened to be facing his car. When it was my turn to shoot, I always made sure I overshot the target so I could run over to the car as I was getting my arrow and say hello to him! I never did get a good grade in that class!
