     David E. Tibbitts, 53, the former advertising director of the Des Moines Register and Tribune died Tuesday at Mercy Hospital Medical Center of complications of cancer.  Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Basilica of Saint John, and Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery. 

     Mr. Tibbitts, who had been living at Urbandale Health Care Center, 4614 N.W. 84th St., was a lifelong Des Moines resident.  He retired in 1982 and was a veteran of the Air Force and a member of the Catholic Church  and the Dowling Club.

     Among survivors are a son, David J. of Des Moines; three daughters, Patti Wohford of Olathe, Kansas, Joni Tibbetts of West Des Moines and Kristin Farrell of Des Moines; two brothers, Roy of Des Moines and Larry of Urbandale; and three grandchildren.

     Friends may call after 1 p.m. today at Caldwell-Raddatz Funeral Home.  A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today.  Memorial contributions may be made to Dowling High School or the American Cancer Society.
