Theodore "Ted" John Hansen Jr, age 68, of Surprise, AZ, formerly of Lebanon, MO, passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2014, at the Palm Valley Palliative Care Unit in Goodyear, AZ, after a 7 year battle with cancer.
Ted was born on Friday, August 31, 1945 in Springfield, MO, the son of Theodore and Mildred Hansen.
In 1963, Ted graduated from Dowling High School in Des Moines, IA and joined the Iowa Air Guard where he was an instrument repairman.
On November 29, 1986 he married Marsha Gartin. The couple traveled the world going wherever the Army sent them for the next twenty years. During this time Ted had various jobs working as parts and service managers. In early 2001, Ted began working for Walmart, so he was able to maintain his supervisory position with these moves.
In January of 2009, the couple became full-time RVers and moved to Huachuca City, AZ. In September 2013, they moved their RV to Surprise to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Ted especially enjoyed spending times watching his grandchildren play sports.
Survivors include his wife, Marsha; his sons: Dan Calder of Des Moines, IA, Anthony Hansen of Huachuca City, AZ, and Theodore J Hansen III of Sierra Vista, AZ; and daughter, Jennifer and husband Derek Wilkerson of Surprise, AZ. He is also survived by five granddaughters, Alexandria Calder of Denver CO, Shelby, Ragen and Lauren Wilkerson of Surprise, AZ and Reagan Calder of Des Moines, IA.
Ted is survived by three sisters: Sally and husband Jerome Rader of Willard, MO, Joyce James of Sun City West, AZ, and Mary Tibbetts of Urbandale, IA; and one brother, John Hansen of Grimes, IA, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore (Ted Sr.) and Mildred (Polly) Hansen.
Celebration of Life will be in Huachuca City at Mountain View RV Park at 99 W. Vista Lane on Friday, April 11, 2014, at 12:00 noon. A service will be held April 12, 2014, at 11:00 AM at Regency Mortuary, 9850 W. Thunderbird Rd, Sun City, AZ.
