Today we celebrate one of this life's most vibrant lights, John P. Huss. After a life of unwavering celebration and rejoicing, John passed peacefully early Friday morning, August 22, 2014.

Friends, family and fun followed John throughout his life. From his childhood in Creston, Iowa through his adolescence and activities at Dowling High School and on to Drake University, the Vietnam-era Army, and even the Catholic Seminary, John's exuberance for life touched everyone he met and will last long beyond his death. John lived his life on his terms, never weary from the celebration nor hindered by obstacles great or small. He built a loving family and a world that he, his love of sport, drink, dance and laughter all mixed together in the life we celebrate today.

John is survived by Jane, his wife of 35 years, his children, Theresa and Ross Allen, Vanessa Wulf and Joe Anderson, Jennifer Huss, Patrick and Sue Clark and Andrew and Sharon Clark. John was also blessed with 9 grandchildren, Taylor, Madison, Noah, Simon, Claudia, Carter, Sophia, Garrett and Maia. He is survived by his sisters, Linda Staiert, Mary Ann Van Dyke, his sister-in-law JoAnn Huss, their families and an incredible extension of nieces, nephews and relatives that will miss him tremendously.

John joins his mother, LuEllen, his Father, Paul and his brother Don in heaven, where they will rejoice in his eternal life and watch over us as we carry on in life as he taught us, with love, laughter and celebration.

A public visitation for John will be held at Dunn's Chapel at 2121 Grand Avenue in Des Moines, Iowa, Tuesday, August 26, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. On Wednesday the 27th, a Catholic mass will be held at 10:30 am for John at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 15 Indianola Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa 50315. On September 11, there will be a private burial ceremony at the Veteran's Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa. September 11th would have been John's 69th birthday.
