Every obit one reads about a friend or good acquaintance is sobering. Infrequently one stops you cold. For me that one was Danny McGrevey.  During our early years we were inseparable.  We put millions of miles on our bicycles around Beaverdale. If not on the bikes, Saturday afternoons were spent at the Beaver theater watching continuing serials and a western before we charged Reeds IceCream for after show treats. We were at each others homes for dinner more than we were at our own home. Week days the nuns at Holy Trinity guided, scolded, and tolerated us…successfully.  In latter years I remember almost as many miles in a ‘58 Ford in pursuit of young ladies all over the city, many evenings scooping the loop and drive-in theaters where we rarely saw the shows. Overwhelming parties at the Pike House at the U of I drew our attention for our college years.  Then after respective graduations we lost touch. I’ve not seen Danny for decades. Now I realize how very fortunate I was to have had him as a best friend for our formative years. His obit relit that missing-a-good-friend-feeling.  He is in a better place now, and I hope some day to see him again (just not too soon) God Bless my friend. And Danny keep an eye on us still reading obituaries not being featured in them
