Jeanne Philippa (Dolan) Cox passed away at her home on January 8, 2022, following a short battle with lung cancer. She was 76 years old. The family will receive visitors from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, January 27, 2022, at Dunn’s Funeral Home. A funeral will take place on January 28, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Augustin Catholic Church, followed by the burial at Glendale Cemetery.

Jeanne was born on July 25, 1945, in New Milford, Connecticut, the oldest child of John P. and Josephine (Placzankis) Dolan. After the family moved to Des Moines, Jeanne graduated from St. Joseph Academy. She attended Maryville University and received her B.F.A and M.S.T. degrees from Drake University. Jeanne taught elementary school in Cedar Rapids before returning to Des Moines, where she worked for the City of Des Moines as a planning technician in the planning division. She retired from the City in 2003 after 25 years of employment.

Jeanne encountered many physical obstacles in her life, including polio, Erb’s palsy, and esophageal cancer, and she never let others place limitations on what she could achieve.

Jeanne enjoyed interior decorating, entertaining loved ones with good food and wine, and attending musicals. She cared deeply about her friends and loved meeting them for lunch and having long chats on the phone. Jeanne’s favorite activity was spoiling her children, grandchildren, and pets, all of whom know how much she loved them. Her friends and family will miss her terribly.

Jeanne is survived by her son Brian (Angie) Cox of Des Moines; daughter Stephanie (Doug) Adkisson of Ankeny; grandchildren Christian (Genevieve) Crouse; Dolan Cox and Emma Cox; brother John Dolan; sister-in-law Susan Dolan; sister-in-law Marcy (Kyle) Knee; and nephews Danny (Fracena) Dolan and Drew Dolan, and niece Hannah Dolan. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Dr. Thomas Dolan, and mother-in-law Doris Bockoven.
