Joanne Jody Dieter (Skowronek)

 

Joanne Terese (née Dieter) Skowronek, age 76, of Glendale, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home on December 2, 2021. Joanne, or Jody, was born in Des Moines, Iowa. She attended Saint Joseph's Academy in Des Moines, Clark College in Dubuque, and obtained her BFA from the Art Institute of Chicago in 1968.

In 1967, Jody married Lawrence "Larry" Skowronek, Sr. of Dubuque, Iowa. During their 40-year marriage and after Larry passed, their home was the center of an expansive life with family and friends. Those who knew them cherished their unique ability to make everyone feel welcome and loved.

Over the course of her artistic life, Jody produced a wide variety of works in many different media. In later years, Jody focused on sculpture, including living landscapes and earthen stoneware.

Jody was predeceased by her husband, Larry, Sr., parents, Berthold Dieter and Terese Weiland Dieter, and siblings Berthold Dieter and Francis Dieter Conway. She is survived by children, Lawrence John Skowronek, Jr. (Cynthia Cass), Andrew Dieter Skowronek (Julie Jacobs), Gretchen Skowronek Condy (Matthew Condy), Nathan Bradley Skowronek (Amanda Schneider Skowronek), and Christoper Casimir Skowronek (Irene Janis Skowronek); fifteen grandchildren; siblings, Lorrie Dieter Maples, Andrea Dieter Nizzi, and Michael Dieter; and cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A celebration of Jody's life will be held at Saint Gabriel Catholic Church, 48 West Sharon Avenue, Glendale at 1 PM, Saturday, January 22, 2022. Donations in Jody's memory may be made to The Crossroads Center (www.thecrossroadscenter.org/donate).
