Marlene "Tiny" Chiodo Iaria passed away at the age of 68 on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at her home in Panora, Iowa.  Born to Angelo and Princella Chiodo on July 8, 1945 she was survived by her three siblings Ben Chiodo (Joleen) of Murray Iowa, Mickey Burgi (Steve) of Kansas City Missouri, and Pam Jessen (Gary) of Friendswood Texas.

Marlene received a Bachelor Degree in Business/Law from Drake University and a nursing degree from Des Moines Area Community College.  She was an RN at Mercy Hospital where she developed educational literature for patients, was a mentor for nursing students, worked in oncology and developed a teaching and orientation program for orthopedic patients.  Marlene also developed and launched the Iowa Institute for Vein Disease with Iowa Heart as well as the Compassionate Drug Program.  At Merck Pharmaceuticals she received many awards for sales.  Her passions outside of her career were running and biking.  Our mother completed several marathons and was a regular participant in Ragbrai.

Marlene has called Panora her home for the last 15 years in a house that she designed, had built and was continually working on.  It is a place where she loved to entertain her friends and family, cook, read and garden.  Her grandkids loved to come visit her there and catch frogs, swim in the lake and search for treasures.  It was a place where she made many good friends, became part of a community and found peace.

Marlene is also survived by her children Kathleen Iaria (Des Moines, IA); Christine Maxwell and husband John and their children Jack, Maddie and Andy (Menlo Park, CA); Jennifer Barcus and her fiancée Vern Gray and her sons Jacob and Collin (Grand Junction, CO); and Nick Iaria and his children Gianna and Ty (Des Moines, IA); and her beloved dogs Nutmeg, Sophie and Lilly.

Along with her compassion for people, she often provided aid to hurt and abandoned animals.  Marlene loved all animals and every pet she ever had was a rescue pet.  Contributions in her memory may be made to the Guthrie Co. Veterinary Services or The Humane Society of Perry.

Cremation has taken place and no services are planned at this time.

Arrangements handled by Twigg Funeral Home, Panora, IA.
