An exact date that Mary Ann Marts passed from this life is unknown. She was found deceased in her home on September 12, 2022. Mary Ann was born to Dale and Isabel (McIntyre) Marts on March 19,1945. She was blessed with a younger sister Dorothy Kay a few years later.

The family resided in the Highland Park neighborhood of Des Moines, Iowa. Mary Ann had a way of relating to many people. She remained close to a circle of classmates from All Saints grade school. Mary Ann graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy in 1963.

Following graduation Mary Ann made her way to Chicago, Illinois and worked in marketing for Kraft Brands. Later in her work life she found a position with the American College of Surgeons. She enjoyed her time with the College and was very proud of her work with the organization.

Mary Ann never married but remained close to her Iowa family; attending family gatherings whenever possible. She is remembered for her sense of humor and comical comments related to ordinary events. Mary Ann, Dorothy Kay and their mother Isabel were a tight trio in the years following Dale’s death. Annual cruises were a favorite way to enjoy time together and relax.

Mary Ann chose to give up her life in Chicago and return to Des Moines to care for Dorothy Kay when her sister experienced a life changing medical event. Mary Ann became a fulltime caregiver for the remaining years of her sister’s life.  She found her way to the North Side Senior Center where she made a new circle of friends and was ready to volunteer where ever needed.

Her constant companions through out her life were her Jack Russell Terriers. Her last little companion Peaches left just months before Mary Ann’s passing.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents and sister. She is survived by her many friends and cousins.

A celebration of life will take place on September 30, 2022 from 2p-5p at the Northside Library 3516 5th Avenue in Des Moines, IA. A private inurnment will take place at a future date at Sunnyhill Cemetery in Grimes where she will once again be with her family.  Memorials may be directed to the ARL, an organization very dear to Mary Ann’s heart.
