There will be a Mass Wednesday April 27th at 10:30 AM at St. Theresa's Church for Nick and his 104 year old mother, Mary Lou Holmes, who died recently. A luncheon will follow.
I was surprised to hear about Nick Holmes. I sat back and began telling my wife ,Dina, what a terrific friend he was at Dowling and the years after high school. I rembered the number of times he gave me a ride homefrom school in our Junior and Senior year, but first we had to stop at the hamburger stand that was near Saint Joseph Academy. I remember after our class graduated almost everbody went off to collage. Brian Conley, Nick Holmes, and myself didn't leave for college. I remember we took weekend trips to Kansas City because it was an 18 drinking state for beer. A year after graduation I moved to San Diego and Nick came out 3 times to visit me. Over the years we kept in touch by telephone, but we never saw each other in person. I always planned on visiting him, but I never found the time, but I wish I had. Nick will be missed.
What everyone has said about Nick was very true. We were great friends at St Theresa and pulled off a few pranks without getting caught. He was also very competitive in a race that only he and I could compete...smallest male in class! RIP my friend.
Oh my, I was shocked to hear this sad news about Nick. He was a great friend and fellow classmate from St Theresa. Life is truly too short. I'm glad I was able to connect with him on one of our trips to the Alabama coast. RIP Nick.

Nick and I became great friends as George Gilchrist and Nick took me in and gave this average guy rides to school at Dowling! we did a lot of great things together! His mom died several weeks back at age 104! Nick's Kate brother John's wife passed away several weeks back if a heart attack! Pray for younger Tim Holmes and all! RIP great classmate!
Scrolling through these memories that many have posted regarding Nick are exactly what I would have said. I can add the fact that I have married a student from St Theresa's , I was a graduate of St.John's and was always comfortable with Nick as if he had known me always.
In 2019 the reunion was canceled due to Covid. I heard from him 3 times. #1 one to ask for dates to schedule a flight. # 2 to ask if he should cancel. #3 To say he canceled his flight .😞
He will be missed
Nick and I reconnected a few years back via Facebook. Despite his many medical issues, he was always upbeat and funny. Just like I always remember him. RIP brother!
