Lawrence! Tell your kids NOW THAT'S FUNNY. Mr. Gholson and I are cousins and have been friends (before we knew we were related) damn near since we could walk. Basketball, football, dodgeball, racing, mopeds, marching band, dance routines, writing rhymes....through all of that and much more, I COULD NEVER SEE MYSELF REFERRING TO YOU AS LAWRENCE. YOU ARE LONNIE! LAWRENCE? That's your dad! :-)

I am excited about seeing people that I haven't seen in 20 years (most of you anyway)! We have got to make this reunion a success! Great site Rodney! Speaking of Monte Parham...he kept us all trippin regularly. Does anyone knows where Karen Nicolas has been hiding or Karen Brown (I would love to talk to her)?

TO EVERYONE: Thanks for all the compliments on the site. But to be honest, you guys are what makes it great. Classmates.com is cool but it is limited unless you pay. This is OUR OWN SITE and ITS FREE! Pam Wingfield said to me earlier, "I am loving the website, great idea and hope it can contine well past the reunion." I totally agree and I hope everyone decides to use this tool to stay connected.

What's going on Nick & Andrea? I am sitting here at my desk smiling and I just can't wait to see everyone. I have to agree with Rodney & Pam. I hope we continue to stay in touch after the reunion is done. But until then lets keep this thing moving...Oh and by the way can I get in on the bet and raise you guys a Biz Markie...MAKE THE MUSIC WITH YOUR MOUTH BIZ... That was (Hell, STILL IS) my JAM!!! LOL

05/28/08 11:40 PM #39

Sherita Roney (Fisher)

I wanna say "Heyyyyy" to everybody chatting it up. Walicia, it's been forever since I've seen you. All of this talk really does bring back some good memories. Remember the school dances after the football game on Fridays?? Looking at the pics...they're funny! I know this reunion is gonna be one to remember. We all need to stay connected rather than waiting another 5-10 years to get together, and this site is the perfect avenue to do that.

05/28/08 11:58 PM #40

Nicholas Brown

Sherita you are right where i was going.... the Friday night dances.... lol. Remember the Dance Crews, lol. (Even thou I wasnt cool enough to be in one) I can still remember those nites, and the cafe looked so damn big....Looked like a big azz dancehall.
Gwen whats up lady, I spoke to Karen Brown about a month ago. Shes doing good, still sound the same, with that laugh.
I will see all the bets and I raise everyone.... "Looking for the Perfect Beat".... Look it up on U tube if you dont know, lol. holla.

HOPE YOU ALL LIKE THE MUSIC ON THE HOMEPAGE. Hope it doesn't create a problem for you at work. In case it does...IT WAS NICHOLAS BROWN'S FAULT :-)

For Lonnie (and the curious).... Kool DJ Herc is credited as being the God-father of HipHop. Mixing, scratching, the very idea of having 2 turntables side by side for continuous play, playing only the "break-down" part of the song (which lead to "break" dancing) was all Kool Herc's invention. He recently did an interview with NPR news where he explained, "I'm not a DJ, I'm a disc jockey...I play the DISCS to make you JOCK."
So the short answer is a DJ plays music - THAT'S IT. A Disc Jockey moves people. He/She is in tune with his/her audience and uses that knowledge to make his audience do what he/she wants. You never have to request a song from a Disc Jockey because he already knows what you want/need to hear. When I think of DJs I think of the scene in "Player's Club" where Bernie Mac's character(Dollar Bill) informs Jaime Foxx's character(Blue), "All you do is play REC-ORDS. That's it! Who you think you are? Kid Capri? DJ Quik?" Nothing wrong with DJs -- they just aren't Disc Jockeys.

Disc Jockeys = Red Alert, Kid Capri, Pete Rock, Premier

DJs = DJ Clue, Hut and the Smoke Machine(RIP), your IPod, Sirrus & XM radio, and your car radio

(This is the part where everybody is supposed to say, "O-kay, dude takes this stuff TOO seriously). YES!
